Former Wharton Professor: 'Trump Was the Dumbest G*ddamn Student I Ever Had'

https://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/former-wharton-professor-trump-was-dumbest-gdamm-student-i-ever-had

The late professor William T. Kelley taught marketing at Wharton School of Business and Finance, University of Pennsylvania, for 31 years, ending with his retirement in 1982. Kelley, who also had vast experience as a business consultant, was the author of a then-widely used textbook called Marketing Intelligence:The Management of Marketing Information (originally published by P. Staples, London, 1968). Kelley taught marketing management both to undergraduate and graduate students at Wharton. Dr. Bill was one of my closest friends for 47 years when we lost him at 94 about six years ago. Hel would have been 100 this year.

Donald J. Trump was an undergraduate student at Wharton for the latter two of his college years, having graduated in 1968.

Professor Kelley told me 100 times over three decades that “Donald Trump was the dumbest goddam student I ever had.” I remember his emphasis and inflection — it went like this: “Donald Trump was the dumbest goddamn student I ever had.” Kelley told me this after Trump had become a celebrity, but long before he was considered a political figure. Kelley often referred to Trump’s arrogance when he told the story that Trump came to Wharton thinking he already knew everything.

This has relevance now because as recently as this week, President Trump challenged the Secretary of State of the United States to an IQ contest. This came within two days after NBC reported that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called the President a “moron” or a "f**king moron." The president has frequently bragged that he was a great student at a great school (Wharton). Thus, the public is entitled to a contrary view from somebody who was there (Dr. Kelley), and I faithfully report it here.

Bill Kelley was one smart cookie. His textbook was standard in his time in the then-new field of “marketing intelligence” and the necessity of using computers and databases to manage it. (See onlinelibrary.wiley.com which credits Bill for coining the quoted phrase.)

I can tell you that is not the case. Grades are confidential. If Trump wants to make it public, fine, but no professor should ever reveal a student's grade, even if the student is Trump.

The professor never stated the grade as a matter of professional behavior.

It is well known that he was not even in the top 15%. There is no record of him placing highly. His claim is a blatant lie.

He might have been able to get away with this bullshit in the construction industry, but Washington is an entirely different ball game. People are fact checking all the time and his lies are finally being exposed. Finally, the world is beginning to see him for the fraud he really is and he is panicking.

A Penn commencement program from 1968 lists Trump as graduating from Wharton with a bachelor of science in economics, but does not include his name among those who received honors or other awards. The program lists 15 undergraduates who graduated cum laude from Wharton that year, four of whom graduated magna cum laude and two with summa cum laude honors.

WTF?! Who in the fucking blue hell did he pay off or bribe?! No fucking way he earned that. A science degree in Econ will fucking blow your mind. It ain't just some theory which is hard in itself, its theory and plenty of math, in other words the "word problems" that were for extra credit back in grade-middle-high school that very few did, because it was nucking futs hard.

I should know, I got my degree in Econ under the science designation....AND specialized in International Trade Theory and Environmental Economics... This bafoon can't even accept Obama's crowd was larger when its plain as day and can't even fucking wrap his head around Economies of Scale.

The math and econometrics (specialized statistics) were not yet required in many programs in the 1960s. And as for economies of scale, I know some economics profs who got their PhDs in this century who can't wrap their minds around that.

He probably barely skirted by on the theory and only perked up when it was something he wanted to hear.

when the economics degree is granted by a business school, rather than a college of arts and sciences, the degree would be BS (or BBA) since business schools do not grant BA degrees. A BA from the dept. of economics in the CAS might actually have more science content than the BS from the business school. I don't know whether Wharton would have been any exception.

As to regression, if Trumpie could distinguish between a beta and a beetroot, he wouldn't have gone bankrupt how-many-times.

We’ve all gone to school with this guy. The guy that knows freaking everything before he ever walked in the door of a college classroom. The fact that he is continually being corrected and is never really right about anything doesn’t seem to faze this brand of idiot. I’ve seen Trump do his brag about Wharton and all that and I was absolutely convinced that if we talkes to the professors they would’ve told us that he was as dumb as a box of doorknobs.

Nice to get some confirmation.

The only thing that matters is that we focus on limiting the damage he can do through his use of executive privileges and his asshole party members in congress.
