So will Repub Tea Partiers abandon Romney as his poll numbers fall?

They never were happy about Romney as their Repub Presidential Nominee.

With Romney caught in a tax return release trap with no acceptable exit, his poll numbers are going to drop. As Romney falls behind in the polls will the Tea Partiers abandon him and strike out with their own nominee at the Repub Convention?

IMHO the Tea Partiers are the most dangerous part of the coalition Romney is trying to put together for a win. He can't win without them, and bowing to their right wing dogma will surely alienate many independents and moderates.

1. Romney is going to have to pick a bat-shit crazy VP

To placate the unhinged tea-bagger base. Like a Michele Bachman. Anything even remotely sane is going to cause a teabellion.

I think the Mormon issue is far from dead with the right wing fundamentalists, and that may drive the VP selection as well.

Even Karl Rove knows that Romney is in real trouble because to cater to one group of crazies will alienate the other voter blocks he needs to win.

2. They are barely on board with him in the first place.

Basically they will only vote for him because he isn't Obama, but don't see him as a "true conservative", whatever that's supposed to mean.

6. Palin has zero chance of scoring the VP position with Romney ...

... and Bachman's chances of being selected by Romney might not be any better.

John McCain can tell Romney what to expect if he is dumb enough to choose Palin. And that is likely why she has yet to receive an invite the convention. Good luck getting close to the microphone let alone the VP slot.

Bachman is going to be busy investigating Congress for communists and those with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. There is a disconnect with reality there, but don't discount the hilarity that might ensue with her selection.

I am thinking Romney will likely choose someone from Wall Street with an expertise in economics. After all, the President only has one job --make sure the economy works for those with lots of financial assets. Forget foreign policy, being Commander in Chief, etc.

7. It is hard to tell.....

So many of them appear to be completely driven by emotion and hatred. They could easily go off against him if Obama's re-election were to begin to appear inevitable.
They might want a "Rogue" candidate (not Palin) that caters to their brand of craziness.

But there is likely a core that hate Obama so bad that they will rally around their guy, warts and all. A brokered convention with the various factions fighting one another would be just too sweet for the Democrats.

Again, hard to tell because they are somewhat unpredictable.

Backing Ron Paul. But they won't. They're going to be caught out for what they believe, and what their candidate lacks. As long as President Obama presses the attack. And continues to shed light on the true motives and practices of the GOP. The flames will burn high.
