"President Trumps lawyers are considering whether he should agree to an interview with special counsel Robert Mueller in the midst of the Justice Department's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, a senior White House official told Politico.
His lawyers believe an interview would help Mueller complete his investigation, which has cast a cloud over the Trump administration, according the Thursday report.
If the special counsel doesnt ask to interview the president by Thanksgiving, Trumps lawyers may approach Mueller with the offer, the official told the news outlet.
The official indicated that the White House does not need to fear a meeting with Mueller, a former FBI chief and seasoned prosecutor.
Whatever happens with regard to whether or not, or how, the special counsel might want to interview the president, theres no reason to expect that would be combative, the official said."

I've been following this, and nowhere have I read that Mueller wanted to "interview" Trump.
Yet, today when I Googled "Mueller investigation", this was the top results.
Wouldn't "interviewing" Trump while not under oath undermine Mueller's case?
Anyone out there who can confirm if this is just Trump's lawyers laying down a smokescreen?

(20,254 posts)It appears all one-sided coming from 'his' legal people.
Mueller is beyond qualified to keep strategy and evidentiary aspects under wraps till hopefully kaboom.

(21,786 posts)because once he's built up his case then any "interview" with Trump will show up Trump as a liar because of all the other stuff he's found. (I would be very surprised if Mueller would agree to "interview" Trump; when it comes down to it anything Trump has to say regarding Mueller's findings will be under oath with potential penalties of perjury and impeachment for lying.)

(19,597 posts)It is probably Trump's lawyers trying to make Trump look clean, knowing there will be no interview.
