Romney to accuse Obama of putting his re-election above creating new jobs

AKRON, Ohio—Mitt Romney will continue his assault on President Barack Obama's economic record during an appearance in Ohio on Wednesday, accusing the president of putting his re-election above efforts to create jobs.

In a memo to reporters previewing Romney's remarks at a rally in Bowling Green on Wednesday afternoon, the campaign called the nation's jobless rate "a real emergency."

"Yet President Obama seems to have just given up on the economy," the Romney campaign memo says. "He hasn't convened a meeting with his jobs counsel in six months, but has held more than a hundred fundraisers for his campaign. The only job he is interested in saving is his own."

While Romney may not use those exact words, a Romney aide tells Yahoo News the GOP nominee will touch on that "general theme." Romney's remarks in Ohio come a day after he unveiled a tougher, more aggressive stump speech lambasting Obama's record and ties to political donors.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) — Democratic governors are accusing House Republicans of deliberately sabotaging the economy to help Mitt Romney oust President Barack Obama.

"There's not a doubt in my mind that in their calculations, that they are hoping for the economy to slow before the election," Gov. Martin O'Malley, D-Md., said in an interview Friday. "They think that's their best shot at unseating the president."

Democrats have grumbled for months that Republicans have obstructed legislation to deny Obama the election-year victories he needs to make the case for his economic record.

But on Friday, some Democratic governors pointed to the GOP-controlled House's efforts to withhold support for the stimulus and block Democratic jobs legislation, and said — in interviews with The Associated Press on the sidelines of the National Governors Association's annual meeting — that the only rational conclusion is that Republicans are sacrificing the economic recovery to bolster their argument that Obama has failed to create jobs.

2. Yes, I've been frustrated that this has NOT been said more loudly. the GOP is blocking.

not Obama. I know the Campaign will get to it, but it needs to be hammered home. Romney seems to think that if he screams his lies over and over, and is unchallenged in the media, that he's scoring big points.

SO frustrating to expect the 1%er journalists to actually ADD at the bottom of the stories, or after the videos, that we have ADDED jobs every month for the past few years, after losing them every month under Bush. That is the truth, and no one is calling Mitt on this.

of the Executive Branch of government. It's the Legislative Branch that write the laws not the president.

5. They are making this too easy

How long did the Republican play obstruction on refunding the highways and infrastructure legislation? They dragged it out to the point where the old appropriations literally expired for a couple of days. Contractors waited on hold through the most conducive to working Spring and Summer months for new funding to be approved (they can't do a whole lot in the Winter) without hiring or getting to work on hundreds of critically important projects, where substandard conditions existed?

Why one might ask? Could it be so the unemployment rate wouldn't go down and the economy would remain stalled to help the Republican talking points against Obama?

Really Romney, that is what you are going to go with?

6. And what has the G.O.P. been doing with the House since 2010 after campaigning on Jobs Jobs Jobs?

I don't have all the facts at my fingertips but they all are out there. Let's see, I seem to recall the House voting on 32 different occasions to repeal Obama care knowing full well that that they don't control the Senate. I think I read that political gamesmanship cost tax payers 15 million dollars right there.

How many days have the Republicans devoted to legislating female reproductive rights and health? How many debates have they had and how many bills have they passed regarding Planned Parenthood, the use of contraceptives, and abortion? How many jobs have they fought tooth and nail to slash in the public sector; all those unnecessary nurses, teachers, firefighters and cops? How many bills have they passed to use our tax code to reward insourcing, or should I say have often have they defended using our tax code to reward outsourcers?
