Should I stay or should I go?

I had three rings stolen from me almost three weeks ago by a guy the house cleaners hired. I guess he was part time in the summer and became full time because he did such a good job (sigh).

He admitted to the owner of the cleaning company that he stole them. I've filled out a police report and we've recovered two of the three rings from a pawn shop. The pawn guy denies he ever saw the third, more expensive ring. The thief said he brought all three to the same place. Who knows?

We did some research on the guy, and he's been arrested and has been jailed before. Not too hard to find the info. I don't know if the owner knew this and was giving him a "second chance" or if she had no idea.

Am I crazy for continuing to use this company? I'm beginning to think I am.

She's also bonded and insured, but I don't think it'll cover the cost of the stolen ring.

Oh, and dump that company. They should have checked this guy out, plus they will probably just hire more like him. My husband and I would never put up with a company like that.

the company won't reimburse you directly.

"Expected or intended" acts are excluded under liability policies, but your claim would be based on negligent hiring and supervision. If the company knew or should have known they hired a thief they are clearly negligent. And that should be covered.

As for continuing to use them, go with your gut here. I probably wouldn't but you are closer to the situation.

on their prospective employees. And should NEVER be hiring someone with his sort of record.

Who exactly is the she who is bonded and insured? I'm guessing the owner of the company. The employees should likewise be bonded, and probably can't get bond if they have a record.

Drop this cleaning company. Find another one.

For what it's worth, I've been using Merry Maids for about three years now and have been deliriously happy with them.

Oh, and at the very least take the company to small claims court for the value of the ring.
