http://thehill.com/homenews/house/354054-dem-rep-its-time-for-pelosi-to-step-downRep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.), the fifth-ranking House Democrat, in an interview published Thursday said it's time for Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and her leadership team to pass the torch to a new generation.
Sanchez, publicly reflecting views that are seldom heard among top Democrats in the House, added that she's like "to see that happen."
I do think we have this real breadth and depth of talent within our caucus and I do think its time to pass a torch to a new generation of leaders and I want to be a part of that transition, Sanchez told reporters from The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times, who were conducting the interview on C-SPAN's "Newsmakers."

(1,301 posts)The torch will be passed before long. Those making these statements now make little sense. We just held a vote.
Pelosi is awesome.

(10,014 posts)are too stupid to be in leadership. If they feel this way, they don't have to advertise it, they should go to Pelosi and Hoyer and have a "talk".

(17,984 posts)Till then, shut up!
You would think that she would realize all this infighting is creating divisiveness in the party. I'm to the point now that I would believe it if someone told me she and Ryan (and anyone else calling for Pelosi's head) are Russian plants.

(6,046 posts)At least come up with the objective reasons. (Maybe she did but The Hill chose to focus on this other aspect).
Many of the anti-leadership articles that focus on age seem to be coming from The Hill.

(47,209 posts)It's funny they didn't choose to use this angle here too. Maybe they also feel it's gotten tiresome.

(12,265 posts)We are in a perfect place to take over the house and senate in 2018. If we start going after each other we are doomed to 8 years of Trump and endless years of Ryan.

(54,448 posts)Just three nights ago, I heard Howard say (repeat, really) that it was time for younger leaders to step up and join the party leadership as eventual successors and top tier candidates. Howard said he and (some others) were setting up (a number of) recruitment venues to attract just such people to the Democratic leadership. The "old guard," he said, would stay on, but more and more as guiders who would slowly fade into the background (but still be available) as the younger ones gained confidence and ability. This is already in motion.
The Sanchez approach seems to be, "get lost old lady, there's a faster gun in town."
I don't yet see the superior merits of the Sanchez approach. Nor do I think it will win over other Democrats in Congress or their constituents.

(8 posts)Pelosi isn't the leader because old people pushed her to the front to take all the arrows, but because she stepped up into the incoming arrows and charged forward with most following behind.
The only reason she isn't the number one target today is Ryan and McConnell have managed to lead the GOP in front of the hail of arrows normally aimed at Democrats.
Note that Bernie rejects ever having leadership. He advocates every man and woman for themselves with no collective action. He rejects parties because that means collective action. And that means one can speak for all, the leader.

Sanchez forget to mention that Pelosi is keeping the Democratic Caucus together and is, along with Schumer, leading Trump around by the nose on some things.

This will be interesting to watch. Pelosi's been a strong and effective leader, but nothing wrong with the younger generation challenging the status quo. It's actually pretty exciting ... the party needs new leaders if it hopes to inspire and win over the younger generation. At least that's what I hear consistently from young folks.

(14,971 posts)especially in mid-terms.
The ones I know and have talked with do or say they didn't because they are in a strongly blue State and weren't inspired by any candidate. By "inspired" I mean they didn't have great confidence that the candidate represented their values or views on issues and priorities.
But again, this is in a very strongly blue State. I have been encouraging them to start attending out county Dem Party central committee meetings and two have actually been doing so. I'll keep working on the others.

(58,751 posts)She was obviously very ambitious then. That in itself is not necessarily bad, but she's off base here and this is an obvious attempt to take over the party in the House.
I prefer to set all this aside until after 2018. Now is a shitty time to pull this kind of party coup. I'm all for newer, younger leadership for the party, but it should emerge organically, not as a result of some grandstand move through the media. Nancy fund-raises like a badass, and as for "repubs hate her," so what? That should be a fucking rallying cry for our party, not some reason to melt in fear and let the Repubs control which candidates Dems run, or a backstabbing way to weaken our leadership unnecessarily. Electing someone that Repubs don't hate is a bad thing IMNSHO. If I wanted someone the Repubs liked, I'd vote Repub, and I wouldn't be around here much.
