Considering the Current Situation, Can we Please QUIT Saying "Reagan 'WON' the Cold War"

Or, maybe, if we still say he “won” the Cold War, we should ask which side he was on?

The only thing that gives me solace is that in 200 years, if our country survives that long, historians will record the Reagan years as when “America lost its soul”, and 2016 as “when America lost its fucking mind”.

It’s as if the past 40 years has been a “Dotard Sandwich”. We’ve gone from the original racist, grandfatherly, aw-shucks “Dotard” slice of bread, to the full-on Batshit crazy “Dotard” slice of bread, with some moderate sanity in between.

In the “eighties”, Americans were convinced that if we gave the wealthy all the beer, they’d piss some down to us Bottom Dweller”…and they have…Man! They have pissed all over the American Middle Class and the Working Poor.
Now, we’ve gotten to the point where the White Middle Class’ reaction to being pissed on for 40 years is to turn around and piss on people of a different color, gender, sexual orientation, or religion.

From Doddering Old Fool to Foolish Old Doddery, we’ve come full circle. Donnie Short Fingers is the culmination of Reaganism.

I can’t wait for the day we’ll be digging up Reagan’s corpse, just to smack the shit out of him.

saying that all the time they mention Reagan.

It's almost as if it's become his Middle Name, ya' know, like...

Ronald "You Know He Won the Cold War, don't you" Reagan.

When I said "we", I meant America. Don't believe me? Pay attention the next time his name comes up anywhere in the media.

They can't talk about that piece of shit without that bogus claim.

Maybe Dems ought to ask Chris Matthews the next time he says it, because it appears to me that Russia won the Cold War and selected our 45th President.

Nice job Ronnie

Mostly the Soviet system was a failure and add afganistan mess to it.

And gorbachev dessrves credit.

But the western world failed by not having some marshall plan type thing. Not just for the soviet states but places like somalia and afghanistan where the cold war played out on the ground.

There should have been a worldwide United effort to help places around the world. Maybe we could have avoided islamic terror (At least as s global threat). And putin.

sophisticated while the US keeps repeating the same outdated policies from the last century. Russia changed the game from a Cold War to a Cyber War, but our ignorant, geriatric politicians aren't keeping up and we are years behind them in both public and private sector security, as well as enacting new laws to protect us from these invasive electronic attacks.

And Reagan isn't one of them.

Ted Turner who showed capitalists how to put programming on satellites and make money doing it. Soon, there was more information than the Politburo could possibly block and/or refute.

The Pope who spoke against the USSR as a Polish native and was immensely popular on both sides of the curtain.

Lech Walesa who organized a general strike so pervasive that tanks and guns couldn't bring it back.

Gorbachev, who realized the end was at hand.

Those four, all happening in the same short time period had 90+% to do with the fall of the Soviet empire. Well, that and they were going broke.

The USSR was already swirling the drain before Saint Ronnie ever came along. Carter knew this which is why he was drawing down defense spending. He knew this because the CIA knew it and they told him. The GOP commissioned Team B composed of outside "experts" like the nose-picker, Wolfowitz, who drafted reports contradicting the official CIA USSR assessment which we know now was spot on.

In comes Saint Ronnie who increased defense spending astronomically and increased stupid cowboy rhetoric against the USSR. All this accomplished was feeding red meat to the hardliners who used it to keep doing what they were doing.
