Unless he just likes to brag about getting away with murder. So, I hope he does but he's not stupid, just very arrogant.

Joe was a massive cheerleader for the Iraq war, hired by MSNBC when Donahue was canned a given a show where he said all antiwar voices needed "to shit up" and "support the troops"
-then-
Five years or so later, he admitted the war was a mistake.
---------
Joe hailed MSNBC's hire of Michael "Savage" Weiner, hailing him as "a guy who tells it like it is!" and gave him an hour interview to welcome him to the network.
-then-
Weiner told a gay man "to get AIDS and die" and was fired after only a handful of shows. Joe never spoke of him again
-----
Joe hailed Trump as "a straight shooter" and "truth teller," devoted hours of his air to giving Trump softball call-in interviews, never once asking him about his numerous lies (Imagnary Hawaiian investigators, etc) up to that point. This culminated in an hour long "town hall" infomercial for Trump, where they joked that he would be asked "nothing too hard, Mika!"
-then-
Trump quits appearing on his show and Joe suddenly decides he's an unstable liar.

So, yeah, fuck that guy. Let's back someone who gets things right the first time.

He's making much more $$$ at MSNBC, and getting much more attention than he'd get from being a Congressman or even Senator. And given that, why join the quagmire in WDC now?
