Started with a fist fight, and because everybody is locked and loaded now, ended in needless deaths. Tragically, the mother of one victim urged her daughter to go to Lawrence with friends, rather than KC, because she would be safer there.

Gretchen Brown encouraged her 22-year-old daughter to go to Lawrence on Saturday night, not Westport, because of “all the violence.”

Brown thought her daughter, Leah Brown, and her best friend would be safe hanging out in the college town.

Luckily the victim survived. I live in a safe, low-crime area but these rage shootings can happen anywhere. People are wound very tight these days and some of them are packing heat. That is why I let things slide more and more. Part of it is just getting older but also I think the days of people getting in arguments or even fist fights and then calling it done are over. Now if you get into it with someone you have to be worried about them shooting you.
