The media is really inept. Their half-assed lazy reporting on Tom Petty isn't the first time they

have done this. In fact, it is way too frequent.

They did the same thing with Gabrielle Giffords

In 2006 they incorrectly reported that 12 miners were alive in a West Virginia mine collapse. They were wrong

Just before the SC decision on the ACA, major media outlets reported that the SC ruled it unconstitutional. They were wrong.

When Comey released the letter to the republicans in Congress, the press reported that the "email investigation was being reopened". That was a lie.

When Bret Baier reported that an indictment was pending against the Clinton Foundation. That was a lie.

There are stories now circulating through the NYTimes, that the killer in Las Vegas "just converted to Islam". As far as I am aware there is no verification.

Enough is enough. We invaded a country where over a million people were killed, based on a LIE propagated by the news media, because most of them were too lazy to actually find out what was happening.

the mine disaster in Virginia, or CBS when they botched this story about Tom Petty, and I can go on and on.

While fox may be the most flagrant, it certainly isn't the only one.

I guess you missed the CNN discussion topic, "Are Jews really human"

It permeates through the entire industry

I just left work early...bawled all the way home after hearing Tom has passed. Now I am listening to his XM channel online and his friends are hosting a live call in show right now and they're saying Tom has not passed but is not expected to recover. While this isn't good news, I'm angry that the MSM jumped the gun (sorry for the firearm reference - I have no words today). They're worthless. They have no credibility. I am by no means supportive of Dotard's persecution of the media, at some point you have to just call it like it is...These fools are doing it to themselves.

To fund an actual news outlet in this country that does actual journalism with actual foreign correspondents and reports in every major region in America and a dedicated investigative corps in DC.
like the AP, only non-profit and completely donor- funded.
At this point, we could probably get Keith Olbermann to sign on to... be the managing editor

I'm not sure that the blame on this falls squarely on the media when they relied on information from the LAPD.

frequently.

We invaded Iraq based on a LIE because the media didn't do their job.

One news source in the U.S., Knight Ridder got it right:

initially said that Petty had died, then the hospital retracted that. So the media was simply reporting what they'd been told at any given time.

Meanwhile, I was up very late watching the coverage of what had happened in Las Vegas, and what was most intriguing to me was that it took a very, very long time for any reports of dead began to appear. It was about 2:30 am Mountain Time, where I am, before there was finally a scroll posted that said 2 dead, and some double digit number wounded. And that was a good three hours after the beginning of the event.
