Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsFor the first time in my life, I've finally got to ask for some help
I've been 9 months recovering grom a foot infection, toe imputation, skin grafts and wound care, the uncovered medical bills and co-pays have finally started to overwhelm us. My wife set up a gofundme paqe and, well I hope some will find a few bucks to spare. I'll answer any questions here and if you really want to see the foot 'unwrapped' I'll send you a pictures from here (be warned it's pretty Roger Corman/John Carpenter in the early stages)

thanks if you can, but understand if you can't.

Good luck, Rosco. Healing is one of those "one day at a time" efforts, so remember to be kind to yourself and depend on others when you need to.

(6,496 posts)I don't honestly remember much of the first couple months, they said I was totally out of it and just there.. finally getting back to normal, well normal'ish. Once I get the eyes fixed I'll feel mor elike me (hard to see the monitor at times)

(7,220 posts)I know it's hard to do, but I'm glad you did it. Happy to be in a place where I can help someone in need, especially on this sad day.
Best of luck my friend.

(6,496 posts)the 'bill' for the 1st hosputal stay was around $200,000 for 16 days, I have no idea what the second one is, I'm afraid to look, I just know how much we're on the hook for the deductible.

(34,112 posts)Cut your carbs back to below 20 in a meal. Religiously test your blood glucose.
Mine was never as high as yours - but it is completely normal (below 140 at all times; typically below 110 except within 2 hours of eating), controlled solely by diet. (Research a ketogenic diet for general info - although my diet is not ketogenic, that is the general concept.)
Good luck!!!
Mine hovers between 115 and 160 now, some spikes to 240-260 but thaqt's right after eating) but it goes back down fast.. well except that one time when wife came home with a DQ Blizzard and left it in the room with me... don't ask!

(6,496 posts)Thanks everyone that had kicked in. You might be interested to know that of all the places (G+, Facebok, her other groups) the wife shared this to.. DU had provided the ONLY donations, Shows where the good people are!
What's come in has helped, but still have a way to go, I found out yesterday that the woulnd is 'regressing' (not healing as fast as it was and is actually losing ground) they're not sure why but more tests upcoming... I'm hoping the Gofundme fairy will come thru, we're looking at another $1100 out of pocket on the 28th for non covered testing/treatment for this 'regression'.. when it rains
But thank you all for all you have done, it has helped, it will help... I'll let you know as things progress!

(6,496 posts)Looks like the wound is regressing badly, appears I'm going back into surgery Friday for another skin graft. The world is getting tighter and this one the insurance won't cover any of. Positive thoughts people.
and is anyone is interested we're starting to sell off a lot of my 30 year collection of diecast and some other electronic and computer stuff, look on ebay for 'puddinkat' as the seller or pm me and I'll send you link

(6,496 posts)Well, I'll be doing surgery again Monday to have a new graft to fight back against the 'desegregation' of the old one.. a BUNCH of people has asked to see just how bad it was (and a couple that wanted 'proof' before they would donate anything...)
You asked for it...
these links till bring up pictures of my foot, links vs just embedding them here (so the squeamish won't be freaked out), warning these are really Roger Corman / John Carpenter / Clive Barker graphic.. don't click if you don't want to see....
Two weeks after Surgery (the most graphic) http://prntscr.com/gwpr3w
4 Weeks after Surgery (pre graft) http://prntscr.com/gwpsfr
The graft goes on (8 weeks after surgery) http://prntscr.com/gwpsqb (ues it's stapled in)
Two weeks after graft, looking better http://prntscr.com/gwpt3o
Two more weeks (closing up nicely) http://prntscr.com/gwpt8q
Another Two weeks, tissue bed fully formed, closing up more http://prntscr.com/gwpt8q
This was 3 weeks ago, it's almost completely closed http://prntscr.com/gwptpu
and this was Monday, you can see how much bigger and raw it's gotten http://prntscr.com/gwpu0a
So, hope that satisfies the curiosity this next surgery is not covered (they only pay for one graft) so.. tight times ahead...
thanks again for all they have helped out, when we get back on our feet (both of them!) we will be paying this all forward and then some....
Bless you all
