Trump endorsed Strange on Aug 8th. The first round was Aug 15th; polling for that shows Strange at 23% Aug 8th-10th (Trafalgar Group, but no different from earlier polls from other pollsters), 32% Aug 10th-12th (Emerson College, and only a sample of 373), and 24% Aug 13th-14th (Trafalgar Group again). In the head to head polls, Strange was at 32-34%, before and after Trump's endorsement. It was after about Aug 21st, in the runoff polls, that Strange started to catch up Moore.

Trump wants a "participant trophy" for backing the loser.
