Fuck Paul Ryan. He's not going to do a goddamned thing.
Fuck Mitch McConnell. He's also not going to do a goddamned thing.
Fuck any chance whatsoever of Trump "pivoting" and becoming "Presidential."
It's all on Mueller. If he builds sufficient evidence, he'll pull Trump aside, tell him what he's got, and Trump will resign, because he doesn't have the balls to face damning evidence head-on. Trump will huddle with Jared and Ivanka and Stephen Miller and they'll concoct some kind of story that allows him to "save face," to "declare victory," and he'll walk away without a scratch.
Of course, if we take back the House and Senate in 2018, then Ryan and McConnell won't have much to say about it. Trump can and will be impeached. There's not a lot of consolation in that, if the endgame is President Pence, but Pence is nothing more than a hardcore Republican prick. Trump is insane. Pence has the potential to create untold damage, but he won't be making up nicknames for people, he won't be insulting world leaders, and in 2020, if we fight for it, we can send him packing too.
Those are our two windows of opportunity...Mueller, and 2018. Because unless Trump pulls a stunt so egregious that Ryan and McConnell will be forced to act, the good people of 5th Avenue had damned well better learn the fine act of ducking and covering.

(20,194 posts)This goes way beyond 45. It's about the security of our election process. Primaries for the 2018 mid-terms are just months away, the actual election just over a year.

(36,475 posts)They might decide it would be too dividing for the country & instead just 'keep him in check.' They have a history of looking forward - Iran contra, election 2000, bush/cheney.
