John Elway put a stop to the Broncos players protesting

The team’s sentiments come a few days after Broncos executive John Elway said he believes in standing for the anthem and that football is not a venue for politics. Elway is a former quarterback who led the team to a Super Bowl victory in 1997.

“Take the politics out of football,” Elway said.

I was surprised when the Broncos players did kneel given Elway always does photo ops with various republican candidates. Although I don't think he hosted Trump here in Colorado.

Last week she proclaimed as a fan of 45yrs, she was no longer going to watch if they continued to kneel. Now her life is whole again. Elway directed them not to kneel and she has her Sunday football again. I'm so happy for her

I would not. I think it's ridiculous that people are so worked up about this protest.

I so want to know if all of these outraged people are standing for the national anthem at home. They show the singer, you hear the song, you see the flags - it's all right there. They should be standing in front of their tvs hand over heart, brimming with patriotism. My guess is, they're sitting, eating, drinking beer or stepping into the bathroom to pee before the game. Where is their patriotism.

Would have to dig into their contracts but I bet a dime to a donut...insubordination is a firing offense.

Not sure these players want to join kappernick (sp) in the unemployable line.

If the NFL want's politics out of their sport, then discontinue playing the anthem. Period.

those who want to kneel can do so.

Elway can fire all of them if he wants. Good luck on having a winning season.

This is truly a freedom of speech issue.

Those who support Trump and want to stand during the Anthem can do so. No one is asking them to sit or kneel.

Although, it really does come back to the more fundamental question of: Why in hell is it necessary to play our National Anthem before every professional ball game? And no doubt lots of college and high school ones as well. This is clearly an aspect of the growing fascism in this country, the constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia.

then be consistent. If you must play the anthem, then recognize that kneeling during the anthem is no more a political statement than standing is. Better to stop playing the anthem altogether.

John Elway stands, and leave it up to the players regarding whether they want to protest or not? All these critics of the protests just want to control people and not allow them to exercise a basic right.

Worse than smoking crack. Takes up all weekends and holidays and Mondays half of the year. Spoils dinners, spoils friendships. My kids hate anyone who is a Dallas fan or an Ohio State fan, and they dislike anyone who beats the Lions during the season. Yeah, I said the Lions... so basically they are unhappy with everyone all the time.

I just smile and go to the beach or the movies whenever they turn on the set and prepare for yet another miserable season.
