Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have been noticing an interesting thing the past few months.
Friends of mine, and me to be honest, are not taking on the crazy faction who blindly follow 45 because they seem unhinged. Honestly, I think it appears there are more of them because they are so threatening that those who disagree stay silent, and in their minds, safe. We have some really crazy right wingers down here, a lot of them live around us and I work with a few university staff members who are not the brightest bulbs.
Now that the stuff has started about the NFL it has gotten worse, even in a state like Oklahoma that is more than football crazy, they are nuts. If you dare to say you agree with those who take a knee because of injustice they come unglued. This morning I said that I thought more Americans needed to become familiar with the constitution and the bill of rights, one of my coworkers got red faced and began calling me a communist!
Do you think we overestimate the nuts who follow him blindly because the rest of us are afraid of them? Plus, all of these polls, I have not been polled since I got rid of the landline. I've asked friends, neither have they. Most of the people I know with landlines the are the people I have talked about here. I just don't think he has the support that it appears.

(31,517 posts)some of them in conversations anymore. Many of them are avid Trumpers. They were slightly unhinged during Obama's Presidency, but since Trump took office they have gone off the rails. Facts mean nothing to them. They act like Trump is some sort of savior.
There are others who seem to realize what a train wreck he is, but still won't admit it because they voted for him. I keep thinking that one day they will come around.

(7,178 posts)Imagine if you have children or elderly family members going to vote when Donald had sicced his 2nd amendment people to go the POC neighborhoods to watch the rigged voting going on there.
To many that would sound threatening.

(12,265 posts)Elderly voters, those with small children would feel intimidated by the Trumpers. I reported the place we voted because 5 young men with Trump hats were in the parking lot, they were outside the boundary, but clearly intimidating. The line was so long, people could see them the whole time. I saw people leave.

(2,860 posts)When I went to vote on election day there was some doofus waiving a Trump sign and stepping out into traffic and screaming that everyone should vote for Trump. I had to go out of my lane to avoid hitting this guy. There were Trump signs everywhere and not nearly as many Clinton signs. I happened to be wearing an old Harley Davidson shirt when I went to vote so the same doofus thought I was a shoe-in for Trump. There were also a whole bunch of 'women for Trump' right behind him too. I don't know if these people were really from our area though. I wasn't intimidated, but I can understand how other people might have been. I just don't get how anyone could actually vote for Trump. It's not like we needed a 70 million dollar Benghazi style congressional investigation to figure out Trump is a horrible person. He stepped up to the podium and told us all right to our faces. I just have to keep telling myself that less than 27% of eligible voters are responsible for this lunatic being our president.

(17,622 posts)...(well offensive to me and my views)...with absolutely no regard as to who is around or opposing views. When she comes to my house I take down my Obama, Hillary and Dem posters and fridge magnets. Not that I'm scared of her....Lordy I could pull a mind fuck on her that would send her to the crazy house......but just because I'm tired of her constant blathering and self serving sermons. So maybe with your friends its the same thing...we are just tip toeing around them like we do a crazy (but harmless) neighbor.
And because we are capable of mental karate...its just not a fair fight with the mentally feeble.

(2,190 posts)Relentless, hate-filled propaganda backed by the government, scapegoating, villainizing and the absolute demoralization of people, organizations, political views and thought that are contrary to the "official line". Hyper patriotism. On and on.
The ingredients are all there and the cake is being made right before our eyes. There just isn't enough of them or enough power to bake the cake yet. Yet.
No appeasements. No compromises. The right just takes it as a sign of weakness to be exploited and taken advantage of. They will not stop until they are politically rendered unable to continue their agenda. Period.

(21,148 posts)My hubby showed him the time magazine article about Charlotte And he called him out that he was just like the skin heads and nazis who support twitler. The guy did not take it well and calls my hubby a liberal elitist or fascist communist now. Hubby asked him to define fascist communist and the guy got unhinged. I think they are embarrassed by twitler and don't want to admit they screwed up voting for him. They don't like to admit they were wrong or apologize.

(17,440 posts)that he (hubby) will go to HR, and if HR does nothing, he will see him in court.
Have him say if he does it either in jest, or seriously...in the next day, week, month, year or ten years, then action will be pursued.
The guy is creating a hostile work environment for your husband.
Also, tell your husband not to engage at all with him on politics.
This is all just my opinion of course...your husband may be in a position where this is neither practical nor desirable for him to do. In any case, good luck.

Yes if it is you, and it would threaten your job, then it would not be worth it.

(13,435 posts)It *is* possible that the response is partly due to how poorly Trump has done so far, and so his followers' reaction to Trump's flag-baiting is more energized. Of course, if Trump were doing "well," he wouldn't have felt the need to stoke his base with this latest faux controversy.
Agree 100%. I think you've hit on the reason the dumpsters are getting more strident and determined in their support of their idol. Every day shows more and more that he's an incompetent fraud who is in way over his head and doesn't care about anyone except himself and certain members of his family.
The dumpsters can't handle the truth. If they could, they never would have voted for such a POS in the first place.
Mr.Bill
(24,292 posts)and there are fewer of them now than there were on election day. We must fight against voter suppression, that must be our focus. They can not win in a fair election if we turn out the vote. That's all that matters.
I say all the above with the caveat that I live in California, so I can't say what it's like elsewhere. But nationally, I think what I stated above is fact.

(24,292 posts)I also prowl conservative sites, too. I still stand by the facts that we got more votes on election day than they did. Even for Congress. They only win with gerrymandering and voter suppression. That's where the real fight is, not worrying what some asshole at work or the coffee shop says to you to show his/her stupidity. Actually it comforts me to have them display how stupid they are.

(1,306 posts)I'm not being quiet around them. In fact, just the opposite, I've ratcheted up my own rhetoric and just out-loud, out-insult them. If one of them eventually goes off the rails and hurts me, so be it. I'm beyond the point of caring. I had it out with one idiot going on and on about "Pizzagate" out loud in a public sandwich shop just a few weeks ago. And, I mean, I went *off* on him until he was the one slinking away. After he left, there was applause.
I'm done playing with these @$$hats. They want political correctness gone, I can play that game too. And I have much more ammunition tied to a better imagination and better education.

(7,838 posts)the fools are abundant and ripe for Trump's picking. The logic of people wanting Americans to give up their Constitutional rights because Trump says so, is unreal. What will be next on his list of distractions? I am getting fed up while watching America slit away.

(67,108 posts)destructive force. Trump loves chaos, reckless and sociopathic behavior. It's not going away and logic/proof fails with this mindset. I don't know how it will end, but it's clear this unintelligent barbaric mob is pulling America straight downhill.

(67,108 posts)hatred. It could almost be anyone that can rally their hatred into a unifying force, as long as hatred was a main theme. They don't even care if they themselves are sometimes persecuted with hatred. The Trump block is a damn bizarre bunch and is dangerous.
