Onward Together and the Obama Foundation

Onward Together is dedicated to advancing the vision that earned nearly 66 million votes in the last election. By encouraging people to organize, get involved, and run for office, Onward Together will advance progressive values and work to build a brighter future for generations to come.

Citizen engagement at every level is central to a strong and vibrant democracy. In recent months, we've seen what's possible when people come together to resist bullying, hate, falsehoods, and divisiveness, and stand up for a fairer, more inclusive America.

From the Women's March to airports where communities are welcoming immigrants and refugees to town hall meetings in every community, Americans are speaking up and speaking out like never before.

The challenges we face as a country are real. But there's no telling what we can achieve if we approach the fights ahead with the passion and determination we feel today, and bring that energy into 2017, 2018, 2020, and beyond.

Onward!

"If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together."

Onward Together is an American political action organization founded in May 2017 by former U.S. Secretary of State, U.S. Senator for New York, First Lady of the United States, First Lady of Arkansas, and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton to fundraise for progressive political groups including: Swing Left, Indivisible, Color of Change, Emerge America, and Run for Something. Clinton described the group as an effort "to advance the vision that won nearly 66 million votes" of a "fairer, more inclusive, big-hearted America.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to inspire and empower people to change their world.

From leaders who are already making an impact, to people who are interested in becoming more involved, but don’t know where to start, our goal is to make our programs accessible to anyone, anywhere. We’ll equip civic innovators, young leaders, and everyday citizens with the skills and tools they need to create change in their communities.

It’s a big job, and we’re just getting started. Learn about our first set of projects and join us in this experiment in citizenship for the 21st century.

Obama Foundation Fellowship

The Obama Foundation Fellowship program seeks to support outstanding civic innovators from around the world in order to amplify the impact of their work and to inspire a wave of civic innovation.

The Obama Foundation Fellows will be a diverse set of community-minded rising stars – organizers, inventors, artists, entrepreneurs, journalists, and more – who are altering the civic engagement landscape. By engaging their fellow citizens to work together in new and meaningful ways, Obama Foundation Fellows will model how any individual can become an active citizen in their community.

The inaugural class of 20 Fellows will be integral to shaping the program and the community of Fellows for future years. For this first class, we’re seeking participants who are especially excited about helping us design, test, and refine the Fellowship.

Our two-year, non-residential Fellowship will offer hands-on training, resources, and leadership development. Fellows will also participate in four multi-day gatherings where they will collaborate with each other, connect with potential partners, and collectively push their work forward. Throughout the program, each Fellow will pursue a personalized plan to leverage Fellowship resources to take their work to the next level.

Obama Foundation Summitt

On October 31st and November 1st, the Obama Foundation will welcome civic leaders from around Chicago, the U.S., and the world to join us for a two-day immersive event in Chicago. During this inaugural Summit, hundreds of leaders from around the world will come together to exchange ideas, explore creative solutions to common problems, and experience civic art, technology, and music from around the world.

Obama Foundation Training Days

We’re hosting a series of Training Days across the country to teach young people how to put civics into action where they live.

This fall, we’re kicking off Obama Foundation Training Days in three communities to energize young people – particularly those who are not yet engaged in civic life – and kickstart their work to make a difference.

150 participants, ages 18 to 24, will join the Obama Foundation team in Chicago, Boston, and Tempe to learn how to use their own story as a powerful tool for change and become more active in shaping their communities. We’re partnering with diverse organizations in each community — from universities to churches to opportunity youth organizations — to help us design and lead each training.

Obama Foundation: My Brother's Keeper Alliance

We believe that every young person deserves equal opportunity to achieve success, regardless of circumstance.

President Obama launched My Brother’s Keeper in February 2014 to address persistent opportunity gaps facing boys and young men of color. To scale and sustain its mission, the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance was launched as a private sector entity in 2015. The My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, along with cross-sector partners, will work to accelerate impact in targeted communities, mobilize citizens and resources, and promote what works — all with the goal of encouraging mentorship, reducing youth violence, and improving life outcomes for boys and young men of color.

To ensure all young people can reach their full potential and as part of the Foundation’s mission to inspire and empower the next generation leaders, this work will continue as a project of the Obama Foundation when, later this year, the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance becomes an Obama Foundation initiative.
