and that's going to be a huge factor in how what actions the Republican congress legislates and funds.

Vox:

According to a new Morning Consult poll published in the New York Times, only 54 percent of Americans know that Puerto Ricans are US citizens. The poll found 81 percent of those who knew Puerto Ricans were citizens supported sending to aid to the island. Just 44 percent of those who didn’t know said the same.

We all need to be dropping "American citizens" into conversations whenever PR comes up.

the dumbing down of Americans continue, geez, we need to make people aware that Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are in need of help. I hate the incompetence and total disregard of people that this regime is putting upon our country. This is not US.

It's perfectly natural for people to feel more responsibility toward those they see as their own.

Then found a developer happy to turn the space into luxury homes. In this case it will become resorts.

if only these stupid jerks would realize that, it does have an effect on all of us, don't they get that??? It will also displace millions of people from their homes. And those who are ignorant (trumps base) who say to people go back where you came from, if the facts present that the atmosphere keeps on getting warmer where are they supposed to go, if those deniers keep on believing that climate change is not real. It does have a snowball effect.

diaspora across the continental U.S. with a gentrification of the island?
What are the ramifications of a large portion of a population larger than the state of Iowa spreading through the U.S.?

Let's say we (Democrats) sponsor relocations for voters as follows:

50,000 Wisconsin
25,000 Michigan
100,000 Pennsylvania

Projections are that many will end up in Florida turning that state decidedly blue.

Once the Republicans come to understand this about rebuilding, then they may be on board as well.

As they say in Ghostbusters:

Dr. Peter Venkman: If we're wrong, then nothing happens. We'll go to jail. Peacefully. Quietly. We'll enjoy it. But if we're right, and we can stop this thing... Lenny... you will have saved the lives of millions of registered voters.

Well, Hawaii is far enough away to "allow" the birtherism crap.

Never underestimate the ingorance of the American populace.

most of the good coastal properties were turned into new resort hotels and such.

He's probably thinking of turning Puerto Rico into a 21st Century version of 1950's Cuba.
