The Last Mile

The problems in Puerto Rico are not new. The hardest part of any relief organization is the last step that actually puts supplies and services in the hands of those who need it. It is called "The Last Mile." This is not just a disaster relief concept. It pertains to any delivery system.

If you google this term, you will find reams of articles about this problem. Every incident is unique. What may wirk in one area may not work in another. Those in charge of that portion of the operation need to be open to new ideas and be able to work to find a solution if the first method proposed breaks down.

There was ZERO excuse for not having people, supplies, manpower and a chain of command set up to help Puerto Rico. The first problems they are running into now could have been mitigated by planning and foresight.

I wish everybody from Trump on down could be abandoned on a deser island.
