Trump puts the full court press on Joe Donnelly in Indiana.

Some of you might be surprised to learn that Indiana has a Dem in the Senate. Yes, he is pretty conservative for a Democrat, but Elizabeth Warren types just don't come out of here for the most part. It's considered miraculous when any Democrat gets elected here in most parts of the state. My wife's Episcopalian church considers it proof of the existence of God when it happens.

Trump came here the other day and reminded everyone about how much they hated Hillary Clinton putting some serious pressure on Joe to try to get him to vote in favor of the tax cut bill coming down the line. Joe isn't exactly coming out swinging. His statement in the article is couched and ambiguous- pretty much like you'd expect from a Dem senator from a conservative state under such circumstances. It would do my Hoosier heart good if Joe would just come out in his native tongue and proclaim, "I ain't votin' for that piece o' shit bill!" But I know that isn't going to happen at this point, and that it might not at all. I would be very proud of Joe if he were to take a stand on this one, but the fix might already be in. It would take a kind of courage that seems to be uncommon in politicians now days. His re-election campaign is already starting to look tough, and the article says Trump won this state by 20 points. It's hard to believe Obama won here in 2008. Don't ask me. I don't know.

Trump twists Democratic Sen. Donnelly's arm over taxes in Indiana

Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly of Indiana traveled aboard Air Force One to Indianapolis for President Donald Trump's tax speech on Wednesday, but what appeared to be an olive branch by the White House turned out to be more of a cudgel.

Trump touted the framework of his proposal as “a once in a generation opportunity to reduce taxes, rebuild our economy and restore America’s competitive edge — finally.” And he boasted that early details of the plan have gotten “tremendous, tremendous reviews.”

Then he reached across the aisle — more to twist Donnelly’s arm than to extend an overture.

“If Sen. Donnelly doesn’t approve it, because, you know, he’s on the other side,” Trump began, as he pointed his finger into the crowd, “we will come here, we will campaign against him like you wouldn’t believe.”
