My sarcastic point was that people (especially the other side) act and pretend like the Civil Rights activists of the 50s and 60s had the support of the American people. But in reality they were treated with the same hate and disdain that BLM and Kapernick receive now

you initially make a suggestion. When that suggestion gets shot down, that's when you protest. Protest is inherently going to upset and annoy people. It's trying to change something that the majority are not motivated to change. Like when men were so supportive of women getting the right to vote, right?
