Just about every conservative has jumped on Obama's "you didn't build that" quote. Romney himself referred to it today.
They are taking it out of context. This is lying. They are saying that Obama said A. In truth he said B, and B <> A and they all know it. Every time the media reports on this, they are obligated to report that the Republican is lying, and report what Obama actually said.
This won't happen. This will become like any of the various Al Gore nonsense from 2000.

(27,461 posts)do you believe Obama said that business owners didn't build their businesses?

(4,340 posts)and I want to reply with what President Obama actually said. Yeah, I believe we're going to see a lot of that shit soon.

(27,461 posts)I have highlighted the antecedent to "that". Unfortunately it will be very difficult for Obama to correct this. Politicians parsing their words never looks good.
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If youve got a business. you didnt build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didnt get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

(1,374 posts)All they have to do is read the quote in context with that whole section of Obama's speech to see he's not saying anything anti-business at all. Be sure to include the last part where he summed up exactly the point he's trying to make.

(1,374 posts)I refuse to accept that but, with our pathetic media, it's obviously more important to most of them to promote conflict rather than resolution. They only care about what is more interesting for their viewers and what gets the most ratings. They are no longer "News." They are Newstainment and I hardly find it entertaining.
