same as you? Same as the players taking a knee?

The 1st Amendment doesn't just cover the speech of those we agree with.

And, how is not watching a football game racist?

Charlie Daniels, like other rightwingers, are pissed that black men are protesting.

It is about race.

You think they were taking a knee in protest of what the flag represents. Ideally the flag represents freedom.

Is that what you think they took a knee over?

If you think it is wrong to take a knee because of the flag then what is the point of what the flag represents? It is suppose to represent freedom and more importantly what makes it possible. The Constitution.

The 1980 Charlie Daniels song "In America" contains the line "Just go and lay your hand on a Pittsburgh Steelers fan."

The following is an excerpt from the Wikipedia page about the song. Note, the URL for the page contains parentheses, therefore, it will not work if I were to type it here on DU.

The line, "Just go and lay your hand on a Pittsburgh Steelers fan" stems from Daniels' feeling that the people in Pittsburgh are "The salt of the earth, the finest, just the greatest people. The strength of America." He says, "I've gone to ball games at different places, but I've always felt the Pittsburgh Steelers fans, especially in the old stadium - I mean, they're steel workers and they're good old guys with blisters, or calluses on their hands.

I think that it is ironic that Daniels' apparently supports 45 whose insulting, profane remark about NFLers taking the knee during the anthem has whipped up turmoil which has caused a rift in the formerly unified ranks of Pittsburgh Steelers fans.

He was in Leonard Cohen's touring band and played on Dylan's "Blonde On Blonde".

He was a supporter of Jimmy Carter's presidential campaign and played at his inauguration. In '73 he had his first hit with "Uneasy Rider".

At a bluegrass festival in Georgia.

He was one of the originals in the Southern "outlaw" music movements. He did songs like "Long-haired Country Boy" and "Uneasy Rider" that appealed to the rebel in most of us. But it was "rebel" as in rebellion against the establishment.

But, over time, he changed some of the words in the songs and became much more establishment and conservative.

He worked with producer Bob Johnston of Columbia Records.

His current politics suck. Maybe he's an idiot! But he has a history of being a damn fine musician.
