Former Vice President Dick Cheney told congressional Republicans exactly what they wanted to hear Tuesday: across-the-board cuts to defense spending are unacceptable.

On a whirlwind tour of his old stomping grounds on Capitol Hill, Cheney attended the Senate GOP lunch, which he used to regularly drop by in his White House days. He’s also scheduled to appear at a meeting of House Republican chairmen, a gathering led by Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) — with whom he’s likely to huddle privately, too.

Then he’ll appear at a meeting of the Elected Leadership Committee, a group of top elected lawmakers that includes Cantor, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

At his private meeting with Senate Republicans, the former vice president delivered a simple message: don’t let sequestration happen next year. “What decisions are made now affect our defense capabilities a decade from now,” Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) said after emerging from the lunch. “The vice president’s suggestion here, speaking as a former Secretary of Defense is, ‘I hope you find a way to avoid the defense side of sequestration.’”

darth hasn't much longer for this world. I'll be surprised if he makes it to the election. I've seen those eyes before and that facial expression tells me that the man is on his last leg, heart, gasp or what ever
