With her intellect and "relatability," no wonder she has been considered an up-and-comer.
But, at age 57, she is already a well-established Senator with two terms under her belt, and was just re-elected to a third term with 63% of the vote. And coming from Minnesota, she speaks to the concerns of voters across the midwest.
So we have quite a strong group of next-generation potential contenders for 2020: Sen. Amy Klobucher, Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Corey Booker, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Reps. Adam Schiff and Julian and Joaquin Castro (Joaquin a current member of the House and Juan the former Secy. of HUD).
I'm sure there are others, too -- these are just some of the ones who came to mind.
So the 2 big issues remain: how to get our voters back on the rolls -- and armed with any newly required ID's -- and how to fight the Russian meddling.

(115,869 posts)She's one of my senators and I have mixed feelings about her. While she is a reliable Democratic vote, in my experience her office has not been very responsive to constituent concerns; all you get back is a noncommittal form letter that doesn't address what you asked about. I've given up; if I had something I really needed to contact a senator about I'd go to Franken instead. She is sharp and competent but I have some concerns about how willing she would be to fight hard to support a controversial position.

And Klobuchar's re-election numbers show that the voters are very satisfied with her.

(12,344 posts)I only saw little bits of the debate last night, but I didn't think her personality was right. Right now I am favoring Kamala Harris.

(1,788 posts)time sorting out who I'd vote for...they are all so awesome and I love them all. We certainly have a wealth of riches on our side. I just moved back home from overseas and I will try to do what I can to help in 2018 and 2020...right now I have some housing issues, so it won't be happening until, hopefully, the spring of 2018...that's what happen when a tree falls on your house and we have all this awful weather shit happening...I consider myself very lucky right now.

(34,125 posts)57 is younger than a lot of those who have expressed interest or been courted. We really really need to find younger people. There are fantastic people who have aged far past where it is comfortable. I would sure vote for those I like if they were the candidate but would be concerned about the age factor, not that it totally matters. Still, we need younger candidates who can be influential for years to come.
I knew she would be good, I was really happy with her up there. I did not know she was 57. She would be a good age.
