Illinois City Calls On Romney To Stop Bain-Owned Company From Outsourcing 170 Local Jobs to China

WASHINGTON -- The city council of Freeport, Ill., approved a resolution Monday evening that will call on presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to step in and save roughly 170 local jobs being outsourced by a company owned by Bain Capital.

Last year, Massachusetts-based Sensata Technologies announced that it was closing its Freeport plant by the end of 2012 and shipping the jobs to China. The U.S. positions, the company claimed, would be phased out gradually. Sensata Technologies makes sensors and controls that are used in aircraft and automobiles.

The resolution organized by Sensata employees calls on Romney -- who co-founded Bain -- to "come to Freeport to meet the people directly affected by Bain Capital's outsourcing and to step in and stop the outsourcing of these jobs from Freeport to China."

The city council voted unanimously, 8-0, on Monday to approve the Sensata resolution.

because he knows how ?economies? businesses work, so he should be asked: OK, What, exactly, would you do, and exactly how would it work? To promote/create jobs? IN the U.S?

That's at least $5 million, maybe $10 million, wealth permanently removed from that community. Workforce alone.

How much did Mitt get for this?

And may it still continue. We think and hope this is all about torpedoing Rmoney's campaign, but really, this is just the beginning of exposing the unabashed plutocrats for what they are, and thus laying the groundwork for breaking their stranglehold on the US.

agree entirely. We will turn back the plutocrats in Ohio. We beat Kasich on Issue 2 to save unions and now we are giving our state back to the voters with the Ohio independent commission amendment. Keep tuned in- republicans are sweating.It will take a few years but by God we will do it!

lived there for 6 months 85-86 somewhere in there. not very fond memories but because of the aftermath of something that happened there (bullies) the issue of race was a dead issue for me since the really bad bullies were the same race as me and the nice ones were black. so it kinda died there. not obvious at first but it started a rather fast death later on... But still not fond memories. When someone pulls a knife on you when your 10-11 yrs old. totally uncool. wonder if Blackhawk elementary is still there.

I attended Blackhawk elementary as a child in the early sixties and return periodically to visit my grandparents graves. In '05 at least the school was still there.

I'm sorry to hear of your bad experiences. Freeport of my generation was a great town. It can be again if we could deport the greedy grasping pigs intent on ruining everyone's lives.

it taught me race doesn't matter. No angry black men there. the 2 main bullies were both the same race as me. In a school that was more or less not white. Freeport is similar to Winona MN. there's some sections one just doesn't want to go near. Although part of me would love to go back and visit Blackhawk. still have a blue plastic mug from there. Not entirely politically correct with the Indian on the side.

Can we all agree that continuing to do this is not economically sustainable.

I watched the town I grew up in and which depended on manufacturing and the jobs that created turned into a ghost town after the manufacturing jobs were outsourced.

They tore down every building in the business district and paved it over.

I hate even driving through that town any more. Depressing.

After reading about the resolution proposed by the workers of the Bain Capital Co., Sensata Technologies, just to have Mitt Rmoney, to step in and save roughly 170 local jobs being outsourced to China; I think I have a better resolution in mind to this matter.

First, if that’s what Bain Capital wants to do, to maximize the profits of Sensata Technologies, by closing down this plant and moving the jobs from Freeport Ill. (USA) to a foreign country, (i.e. China) as a matter of business, then as a matter of business, I propose the following resolution for Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company;

1. In the event that said company, Sensata Technologies, a Bain Capital Co., requires the moving of said company, Sensata Technologies, to any foreign country for the sole purpose of Bain Capital to maximize the profits and technologies inherent of said company, Sensata Technologies, it is hereby decreed:

2. That any workers or employees, of Sensata Technologies, that are displaced of any formal employment at said place of employment, Sensata Technologies, therefore are left unemployed, by the decision of Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company, shall receive for this loss of gainful employment a total of 5 years pay, at the present rate of either hourly or salaried, in the form of a lump sum payment; payable upon the loss of active employment at said place of employment;

3. That any workers or employees, of Sensata Technologies, that are displaced of any formal employment at said place of employment, Sensata Technologies, therefore are left unemployed, by the decision of Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company, who has actually trained a member of any foreign entity, for the express purpose of taking over the job(s) that they presently perform at Sensata Technologies; shall be paid a lump sum of $50.000(USD), nontaxable, as a training fee for any foreign entity of any foreign country;

4. That any workers or employees, of Sensata Technologies, that are displaced of any formal employment at said place of employment, Sensata Technologies, therefore are left unemployed, by the decision of Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company, shall have a yearly investment payment of $100.000(USD), nontaxable, for their role in the technologies or any techniques they themselves used in the production of any product(s) manufactured at said company, Sensata Technologies, for their knowledge base in the production and manufacturing of any products produce in any foreign country that have been reassigned by Bain Company and its Managing Officers of said Company, for no more than 10 years henceforth;

5. That any workers or employees, of Sensata Technologies, that are displaced of any formal employment at said place of employment, Sensata Technologies, therefore are left unemployed, by the decision of Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company, shall have a yearly –per diem- of $20.000(USD),nontaxable, for the express purpose of reeducation and schooling to re-train themselves in a new career of sustainable employment for a period not to exceed a 3 year time period;

6. That any workers or employees, of Sensata Technologies, that are displaced of any formal employment at said place of employment, Sensata Technologies, therefore are left unemployed, by the decision of Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company, shall have paid on a yearly basis any and all present Health Care Benefits that any employee presently has in place as a form of Health Care Insurance, not to exceed 3 years beyond the displacement of any formal employment at said place of employment, Sensata Technologies, therefore are left unemployed, by the decision of Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company;

In all, these 6 provision are designed to protect these workers and employees of Sensata Technologies for the grievances’ of being formally displace of their livelihoods and the hardships they will encounter once they are, due in part to a corporate decision, unemployed after years of employment at said company, Sensata Technologies.

On the premise of the plant or facilities that encompassed the said company, Sensata Technologies, I further propose the following decrees as that which in part will affect the community as a whole.

1 Any previous Tax Incentives that were used as the motives for Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company, to stay in Freeport, Ill. As a primary reason, shall be repaid to the city of Freeport, Ill., or any other local Governmental entity that granted any form of tax incentives to Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company, shall be repaid in full with a 16.5% interest rate for the use of any tax moneys used by Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company;

2 The plant or facilities that encompassed the said company, Sensata Technologies, or any other properties associated with the said company, Sensata Technologies, shall revert back to the city of Freeport, Ill. And therefore become city property owned by the City of Freeport, Ill., with Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company, not having or holding any title or ownership of said properties in any form, thus Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company, forfeits any and all holdings of said properties and has no further title to said properties.

3 Any and all interior and exterior components of any and all properties that are presently attached to any structure of any and all properties associated with said company, Sensata Technologies, are to remain attached as are. Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company, are restricted from removing and destroying or disassembling any plumbing, electrical, hvac or any environmental system presently in place. Any and all electrical , water, sewerage and waste disposal shall remain in service for the duration that any plants or facilities that are unoccupied per Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company;

4 Any manufacturing machinery, assembly line set-ups, or any other associated machinery that is attached to the flooring or structure walls, or set-up in a permanent position, in any form, are to remain attached as are. Any and all hand tools, fixtures, jigs and associated tooling used in the performance to manufacture and produce any products as assembled at Sensata Technologies, are to remain in place as is;

5 Any supplies or associated inventory that is presently used in the manufacturing of any and all products of said company, Sensata Technologies, are not to be depleted, and to be replenished with a minimum of 3 months inventory remaining;

6 Any plants or facilities that are unoccupied as a result of Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company, shall retain and have a in place a permanent maintenance crew for the upkeep and appearance of any unoccupied plant, facilities and properties associated with said company, Sensata Technologies ;

7 Any environment assessments of any environmental waste or damages that require any clean-up shall be paid by Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company;

As to this aspect of this decree, in actuality, is the fact that if Bain Capital and its Managing Officers of said Company, wants to move these jobs to another foreign country, go right ahead but, none of the machines or equipment or anything leaves from any of these plants or facilities, everything stays right here in Freeport and that they can duplicate this factory anywhere they want to, on this planet, but this factory stays right here, intact. Period.

So, that joke of a resolution approved on Monday evening to call on presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to step in and save roughly 170 local jobs from being outsourced to China, has no teeth. These people, including Mitt, probably got a good chuckle out of it. My proposal has teeth, that will bite, and legs to boot.(up the ying yang)

So, Mayor Gaulrapp, to put some balls to a real resolution, try my suggestion to stop this madness that has become a way of life for companies like Bain Capital and its Managing Officers, and let this un-American Corporate Raiders understand-Enough is enough. So, let’s make this resolution retroactive back to the date in which Bain Capital and its Managing Officers, decided to outsource these jobs at Sensata Technologies to China, retroactively.

From: an American Citizen

I just hope someone takes a stand and put forth this resolution!!
