General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsOK, every day I am asked to serve on a jury about:
The last Democratic primary. Every day. I have been participating but wonder how long we are going to spend time on this??
I am a big fan of realizing that you cannot go back and change what happened, so it is best to move forward.

Like Elsa said, "Let it go" already! 2016 is not coming back for a re-do.

(2,824 posts)If you don't want to see Bernie or Hillary threads, go to My Account and open the Trash can thread. Then put in all variations of Bernie, Hlllary, BERNIE, CLINTON, and all possible variations in the entry fields. Also put in Bernie, or Hillary with the comma after it or some posts will get through. Blocking these repetitive posts saves a lot of needless irritation.

(13,776 posts)It probably was at the time, and it's probably still true, IMHO.
Whose purposes does it suit for Democrats to be fighting amongst themselves, this long after an election?
Sen. Walter Sobchak
(8,692 posts)Most Western countries have explicit political spectrums from with a communist party on one end and an ethno-nationalist fascist party on the other with half a dozen or more in-between.
The coalition within approach in the United States has been slowly eroding since the mid-sixties, but we're at the point now that Democrats and Republicans alike are willing to attack the character of legitimacy of their fellow Democrats and Republicans.
That is what terrifies me about 2020, since I am pretty sure our primaries will consist of Booker supporters accusing Gillibrand supporters of being white nationalists, Gillibrand supporters accusing Booker supporters of being misogynists and "Booker Bros" as all the while the leftists accuse both of them of being Mitt Romney.
It is going to be awesome.

(111,339 posts)and it's annoying as hell, especially when you know damned full well it's something picked up from trolls on Farcebook and Twitter. If it's not a cherrypicked sentence from Clinton's book, it's something Sanders said, taken out of context.
I'm as sick of it as you are. I trash threads but then they pop up as jury requests.

The reason we here in this thread are getting jury requests is because we refuse to post in those threads. It's nice to see which other posters are sick of the divisive bickering.

(615 posts)But we have to make special rules for people that aren't democrats so things get sticky.
Make the rules simple and enforce them.
Independents are not democrats. By definition.
LiberalLovinLug
(14,176 posts)the rule about not attacking Democrats is being used to justify attacking someone who is a DIABN (Democrat in all but name), even though it is verboten to do the same to even those few DINOs that vote with Republicans.
That's where it gets "sticky".
The rules SHOULD be changed to include Bernie Sanders, who votes with Democrats, shares their values, and runs as a Democrat. But I fear that would be met with fire, fury the likes of which has never seen before on DU. But it would solve a lot of the stickiness.

(27,830 posts)TALKING ABOUT HILLARY CLINTON is not re-fighting the primaries.
In fact, talking about her campaign in the GE is post-primary anyway, so I don't know why this is happening. A lot of us are inspired by Hillary Clinton and it should be perfectly acceptable to 1) discuss that; and 2) talk about forces in the GE (including the level of enthusiasm her primary rivals brought to the table) that worked against her victory.
Talking about voter suppression in the GE is not "re-fighting the primary".
Talking about Russian interference in the GE is not "re-fighting the primary".
Talking about Facebook bots unleashed during the GE is not "re-fighting the primary".
Talking about media collusion with normalizing Trump in the GE is not "re-fighting the primary".
I've seen a lot of bitterness at DU over the years, but this beats all and I don't know if there are trolls stirring up the pot or if it's people who simply cannot endure the fact that Hillary was our candidate, but I think she would have been an absolutely stellar president and I'm perfectly willing to take on people who don't agree, and that doesn't mean I'm re-fighting the primary, so people just need to quit alerting.

(8,692 posts)To avoid offending any one person I am considering just deleting Facebook entirely. It is worse still there.
We're going to be re-fighting the 2016 primaries and variations on Trumpism for a generation to come, it is going to suck.
My fear for 2018 and 2020 is that our campaigns will get bogged down in score settling and grudges. Even at the State level in California I see Bernie and Hillary supporters being ostracized in certain corners because of hurt feelings over 2016.

Some threads are refighting the primary, some aren't.
I think lots of stuff probably gets alerted as "refighting the primary" where the alterer may have genuinely misunderstood the topic.

(1,428 posts)Some here are absolutely outraged that their favorite candidate(s) will have to face challengers from within the party, competitors from opposition and third parties, and criticism from celebrity activists. This is part of the process. It's a given when you run for office there will be people who disagree with you and be very vocal about it.
The proper response to these situations are issue based reasons why our ideas and policy goals are better for the American public. Responses like, "He's not even a Democrat" and "She helped Trump get elected" will not inspire votes for Democrats. Average Americans have real world concerns like the cost of health care, student loan debt, and stagnant wages. I never hear people in the real world tell me their top concern is the level of party loyalty of any particular candidate or who some washed up celebrity voted for in the last election.

(82,383 posts)so it is not entirely about the last primary.
It's still a fear that it could affect future elections. The concept is still there, let's primary this or that Democrat or going on against potential future Democratic presidential candidates already on grounds of not pure enough.
The Russians haven't stopped and stepped aside. They are going to be keep supporting these types of attitudes.

I think a lot of folks with resentments are actually resisting the continuation of the primary wars but it's easy to succumb to to fire back when poked. At least that's my problem.
