President Trump's family business reportedly hired a construction company owned by the Chinese government to work on a project even though Trump promised it would not work with any foreign entities while he was in the White House.
A $32 million contract was awarded to the Middle East subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering Corporation by DAMAC Properties, the Trump Organization's partner, according to McClatchy.
The contract, which was awarded some time in the beginning of 2017, includes building a road for the Trump World Golf Club Dubai, McClatchy reported. http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/white-house/article172443417.html
A Trump Organization official said the Chinese company was "appointed by DAMAC to undertake some infrastructure work and to build one of their hospitality developments."
But the official added that it was "totally unrelated" to the golf club.
Meredith McGehee, chief of policy, programs and strategy at Issue One, a nonprofit working to reduce the role of money in politics, warned of conflicts of interests while in office. This is not just a concern of good government organizations, she told McClatchy. It was a fundamental concern of the Founding Fathers.
