Hillary Clinton Says She Will Never Run for Office Again
http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2017/09/10/hillary_clinton_says_she_will_never_run_for_office_again.html
Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made it clear she is not going to run for public office again, although she vowed to continue trying to make a difference on the issues she cares about. As an active politician its over. I am done with being a candidate, Clinton said in an interview with CBS that was broadcast on Sunday morning, two days before the release of her memoir about the 2016 campaign. But I am not done with politics, because I literally believe that our countrys future is at stake.
The interview to promote her memoir What Happened made it clear Clinton is still not over her shocking electoral defeat in November. I am good, Clinton said. But that doesnt mean I am complacent or resolved about what happened. It still is very painful. It hurts a lot.
The former candidate said she was gobsmacked by her loss to Trump. I went, into a frenzy of closet cleaning, and long walks in the woods, playing with my dogs, and, as I writeyoga, alternate nostril breathing, which I highly recommend, tryin to calm myself down. Andyou know, my share of chardonnay. It was a very hard transition. I really struggled, she said. I couldnt feel; I couldnt think. I was just gobsmacked, wiped out.
Clinton also used the interview to harshly criticize President Trump. We have a reality show that leads to the election of a president, Clinton said. He ends up in the Oval Office. He says, Boy, its so much harder than I thought it would be. This is really tough. I had no idea. Well, yeah, because its not a show. Its real. Its reality, for sure.

(27,818 posts)I still cannot believe what happened. I thought that December 12, 2000 would have been the worst day in I ever went through on a political basis, but I was wrong. I almost didn't make the transition between November 8 and 9, to tell you the truth.
Eff anyone who "got over" Gore's, and Hillary's, losses. Eff them forever. We cannot and should not get over this nonsense of stolen elections and evisceration of stellar candidates who would have made two of the best presidents this country ever had.

(23 posts)Sadly. The only option is to look forward to 2020 and get our efforts into overdrive! Focusing on conspiracy theories about the election being stolen (remember when the crazy GOP tried doing this PRIOR to orange's win?) will not win us the 2020 race.
This isn't a time to take a page out of the GOP playbook. It is a time to follow the example of our Democratic leaders and focus on getting our wonderful message out to as many people as we can. We need to get every Dem voter out to the polls, one way or the other.
LisaM

Squinch
(50,987 posts)freely acknowledge it on live TV now. Every US intelligence service says it happened. Why would you say it didn't?
This isn't a time to be spouting the GOP mantra that the election wasn't stolen.
exfthings
(23 posts)I know this, because I work for one of those agencies.
ODNI actively operates under the belief that various flavors of influence orchestrated by foreign actors did not change the result of the election. No one disputes that attempts were made, however. This may be shocking to the average individual, but it actually extremely common in intelligence circles.
Specifically, NSA is the agency tasked with defending US networks/infosystems and denying or degrading our adversaries access to wide-area networks. Such systems are routinely penetrated by foreign intelligence services and other actors, and do not constitute world-shattering events.
To be clear, it isn't a "GOP" mantra. And I'm almost shocked that I was labeled a "troll." Far from it, in fact. The election wasn't stolen, despite many adversaries attempting to project their sphere of influence into our political circles. When I see ODNI claim otherwise, my opinion will instantly change. Until that time, however, it is a giant distraction preventing us from getting our message out there!
As someone who frequently peruses right wing forums (opposition research, much?), I can say that many are elated over this Russia obsession. It isn't going to help us win in 2020. The DNC spent a lot of time and money making sure our message adequately explained our party to John Q. Public voter, and why he/she should give us the Presidency and statehouses.
Squinch
(50,987 posts)There is absolutely no way that anyone can know that all the Russian shit that was thrown at this election did not change the result.
It's not something that should be ignored because your "opposition research much?" says that the Right has an opinion about it. Who gives a shit what they think?
It's not something that responsible voters dismiss with statements like: "this may be shocking to the average individual (condescend much?) but it (sic) actually extremely common in intelligence circles."
It's something for which responsible people will demand an investigation, and demand that we take all steps available so it doesn't happen again.
Unless one is a GOP troll, in which case that would be the last thing that one would want. If one were a GOP troll, one would try to insist that we just leave it alone and stop talking about it.
Russia tampered with our election, and their politicians are crowing about it on live TV. It happened.
And to be clear, yes it IS a GOP mantra.

(23 posts)As much as I hate the results, both elections were conducted in accordance with Federal law. Despite attempts by foreign actors to influence them, the parties within this country conducted themselves legally.
Posts this like are the reason our party hasn't spent more time and effort getting our message out to voters. Smh.

(23 posts)There is absolutely no evidence otherwise, and operating under such an assumption will do nothing but stymie our message that desperately needs to be heard by the voters.
My vehicle was full on election day, and I've been a Democratic voter for 30 years. No one has the right to question my dedication to the Democratic party. I do not appreciate terms such as "troll," terms you use in a vain attempt to elevate your position above the mere-assumption it is.

(1,349 posts)Ignoring the broken, hacked and otherwise corrupt ways that votes were suppressed is a sure fire way to keep on losing.
This election was indeed stolen. Sadly, our government has no way to remedy that, but closing our eyes to the truth and failing to examine what went on is a sure fire way to lose 2018 and 2020.
Let's take a page out of what the rest of the world is doing to handle the crap that attacked us, and find out what happened and do what it takes to FIX it.

Perhaps "charisma/persona" is far more important than the credit we as a party give it. Policy messaging is fine, but really connecting with people is more important it seems. We need to marry the two.

We have Nazis on college and high school campuses screaming free speech because their views aren't heard. I don't want to hear your views! We have batshit crazy religious fundamentalists picking judicial candidates. We have government institutions that are designed to help people replaced with "thoughts and prayers". Bottom line is that leaving open the possibility he will run again perpetuates the infighting and divisions in the party. It prevents us from moving forward. The right thing to do would be to take himself out of contention, as Hillary has done.

Here is where it stands. Enough of those self-identified progressives who refused to vote for the DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE in 2016 have pissed off a lot of folks who DID VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE in 2016, and because of THAT contribution from those self-identified progressives who wouldn't vote for the Democratic nominee, along with some other things, we lost the house, the senate, and the white house, and if he is stupid enough to try to run again in 2020, those Democrats who supported the DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE, will NOT be there for him, so let's see how that works out for him then
It is a double edged sword, and just watch it slice the other way if he runs.

Of the 100 United States Senators, only four are included, of the 438 Representatives only two are included. It does not include any Governors or any holders of state-wide office.
Finally, note too that the results are "weighted", in fact the "weighted base" has been INCREASED from the total respondents! Not a very objective poll in any sense of the word.

Pretty much everyone else who gets pushed here as a 2020 candidate is that old.
It is more than past time for a younger generation go step forward and start taking over the reins of the Democratic party. Republicans have been getting younger people out there for a good twenty years at this point. When are Democrats going to understand they need to do the same thing?
