Exclusive: Mitt Romney planning to run for Senate if Orrin Hatch retires

Written by Bryan Schott, Managing Editor

Sources tell UtahPolicy.com that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is preparing to run for Senate in 2018 if Sen. Orrin Hatch decides to retire. Sources close to Romney say the two-time presidential candidate will jump into the 2018 Utah Senate scrum if Hatch opts not to.

So far, Hatch has not made up his mind as to whether he'll run for an eighth term in 2018. He has previously said he was planning on running as long as his and his wife's health holds up.

Dave Hansen, a longtime political advisor to Hatch, told UtahPolicy.com last month that he didn't expect Hatch to decide on his political future until October. However, sources now tell UtahPolicy.com that Hatch may not make up his mind until December.

Hatch's reticence to make a definitive announcement is presenting other candidates from getting in the race, but Romney has the financial resources to mount a campaign no matter when Hatch decides.

That's very painted by the results of 2016, of course.

I'm also certain worse Republicans than Romney will seek that nomination, too. With luck, we can divide them and actually have a Democrat win it.

I suspect Utah embraces carpetbaggers, especially one who appears to be a Grand Poobah in the LDS church.

Guess we'll know for sure when Romney buys a new house. Or does he already have some in Utah?

encourage and vote only democrat? We need to win some seats in the house and senate not encourage republikkklans...maybe he's a nice guy, yet seeing this grown man grovel at trumpf's feet was sickening, and is telling. Besides our mantra should be support, vote democrat no matter what! If we had done that, be loyal to party, hell we wouldn't have that vile racist now occupying the WH. Romney reminds me of Pence both appear to be very very religious, yet both racist as hell! Oh, but they are nice about it [racism, bigotry] in a statesmen kindofway.
