The mandatory evacuations were ordered for roughly 123,000 residents living in Zones A and B. Those areas include the barrier islands, lands areas north and south of the Jupiter Inlet, mobile homes, low-lying areas prone to water intrusion, and other surge-vulnerable areas along the Intracoastal Waterway.
Voluntary evacuations were issued for those living in Zone C. That area generally includes properties from the Intracoastal waterway west to U.S. 1 in the south and central part of the county, and areas in close proximity to the Loxahatchee River and the northern tip of the Lake Worth Lagoon. About 138,000 people live in those areas.

(53,093 posts)For parts of Palm Beach county, it's along the coast.
But yes, no where in FL is far from the coast. That's why evacuating is so difficult.
Please try to stay safe.
I so don't miss hurricanes.

(83 posts)I lived in Palm Beach County my whole life. Mostly directly on the ocean. I'm still traumatized from going through Frances, Jean and especially Wilma since the eye passed directly over my condo in Highland Beach. During the eye, we went outside to look at everyone's car that had been destroyed after the carport collapsed on them.
Now I live in Denver and I'm freaking out about my family and friends in Florida.
I can't decide if it's worse to live through the storm with them or worry about them from so far away.
Either way, I can't stop watching The Weather Channel, reading DU and Twitter for updates!
