C'mon, tell me he didn't say this

Schooley? @Rschooley
"Things are working out well," says @POTUS on visit to storm shelter. "Families happy. As tough as this was, it's been a wonderful thing."

Glenn Thrush? @GlennThrush
"Have a good time everybody!" Trump says to reporters touring Houston shelter housing people who have lost houses, cars, livelihoods, etc.

All day whatever coverage I've seen, I find myself growling at the TV - "so, gee whiz, let's all give him a medal."

This is part of your JOB, dude. And this doesn't wash away your scandals, racism, insensitivity, phoniness, greed, selfishness, willful ignorance, incompetence, narcissism, fraternizing with the enemy, obstruction of justice, or your nonstop congenital lying.

I hope there won't be some BFD of a state funeral somewhere that he has to attend, but if so, I hope whoever is in charge of it won't ask him to speak. I can just imagine him standing in the pulpit of a big cathedral near the casket of an important dead person, and with that person's grieving, black-clad family in the front pews, and Trump saying something like, "What a great crowd! I'm happy to be representing the United States of America, where I was elected with the most electoral votes in history. This turnout is almost like my inauguration crowd. I wish Prime Minister (Dead Person) was alive to see this great turnout. Have a good time, everybody!"

I have the TV on in the background, so I'm just getting bits and pieces. He is behaving for Trump, so in spite of his tone deaf remarks, he is getting credit for being more sympathetic than during his previous visit to Texas. His supporters are in heaven of course.

Almost everyone I’ve talked to says, ‘We’re going to move to Houston.’ What I’m hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality.
And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this, this is working very well for them.

Seeing anyone under completely devastating circumstances and saying they are better off. It's truly a tragic slip of the mind. Imagine what they say in private.

He'll basically ask whether they believe what he tells them, or what their lying ears heard him actually say.

If there is an upside, any number of country songs are about someone who's been lied to, too many times, who finds the strength to dump an abusive loser. I think that might resonate.

45 has the attention span of a gnat, so because he helped at a shelter with happy people, in his mind, this is how everything is going.

In any other administration, this is what the President *should* be seen doing. With Trump, we know it's a bit of patronizing theater acted by a person who otherwise couldn't care less and is being coerced to look good for a media soundbite.
