Filmmaker Michael Moore on Friday slammed the arrest of a Utah nurse after she refused to let a police officer take a blood sample from a crash victim, saying it was a sign of Trumps America.
Here's what it looks like now in Trump's America, Moore tweeted, with a video of the incident. The authoritarian police state he so loves is now everywhere.

Hospital and body camera footage emerged Friday of University of Utah nurse Alex Wubbels telling Salt Lake City police it was against the hospital's policy to take blood from an unconscious patient without a warrant, consent from the patient or if the patient has been under arrest.
I either go away with blood in vials or body in tow, Detective Jeff Payne told Wubbels. Wubbels was then informed she was under arrest and was placed in handcuffs while being dragged out of the hospital screaming for help.

(130 posts)The police have been out of control for a lot longer than Trump has been in office. Look how they have been told time and time again filming them is legal, yet there is a goos chance they'll get violent over someone filming them. Trump is at fault for letting the KKK and Nazis operate in the sunlight, but the cops have been extremely violent for years now.

(1,753 posts)But Trump has given rightwing bigots and racists license to openly express their bigotry and racism with political impunity, just as far too many in LE have been given license to ignore the rule of law the pardoning of the likes of Arpaio being the most recent example.

It's shocking for many people because the victim is white. But Moore should know better than this

This concept of the "thin blue line" is outdated and a disservice to honorable police officers everywhere. I was horrified by that video, but about 45 seconds into officer strong arm's asshattery, I started SCREAMING at the back ground officers for not STOPPING him.
There are half a dozen other officers and squad cars in the background and they stood by and WATCHED a citizen doing their job be ASSAULTED by a rabid dog amongst their ranks. THEY are to blame as much as the chain of command for putting some one so unfit in uniform in the first place. The Fraternal Order of Police used to get donations from me and my family for years, no more. Not one cent ever again until there is UNIVERSAL POLICE CONDEMNATION of this kind of a) behavior in uniform and b) cowardice and silence of witnesses in uniform.
They ALL disgraced police work in that video, every one of them. That mad dog should have been arrested on the scene by fellow officers if they cannot do that, if they cannot recognize an appropriate time to "serve and protect", then they shoudl resign in shame. The "thin blue line" is strangling police in the country and turning an honorable profession with many dedicated and hard working men and women into a gang of lawless thugs....either through silence or acquiescence.

(14,047 posts)This happened July 26. It was only AFTER the video spread online and in the news that they took any action.

Its also likely against the US Constitution, as well.

(14,275 posts)Trump announced to the world that our law enforcement officers no longer have to uphold the constitution. They no longer have to worry about repercussions. I expect to hear of more violation of rights as long as he is occupying the White House.

(19,066 posts)Trump has literally encouraged police brutality and one of his main campaign promises was to drastically increase and accelerate the police state.
As bad as this incident was, the country is. It even recognizable if you are an immigrant or minority right now. We've moved hard towards an authoritarian state.
