because he needs to keep the power of the pardon for himself. Investigations into Russia could go on for years.

(115,735 posts)Executive privilege is just the privilege to withhold certain information that a president can claim on behalf of the executive branch. You might be thinking of immunity - but it isn't settled law that a president can't be charged or prosecuted for crimes he committed in office (Nixon was named by a grand jury as an "unindicted co-conspirator" because the Watergate prosecutors concluded he couldn't be charged while in office - but that's never been conclusively determined). Eventually he could be charged because his term won't last forever, and extradition petitions for serious felonies are routinely granted if he were to move to FL (and he could never go back to NY) so I don't see that as a problem.

(89 posts)I want him in there fighting with congress, acting like a moron and getting absolutely nothing done.
I really don't get why anyone would rather have a dangerous lunatic like Mike Pence in the office. He knows the game, he knows the system and his policies and beliefs are off the charts terrible for the country. He could streamline the cruel, inhumane GOP agenda. Fuck that.
We can survive the Тяцмр circus until it's time to vote him out, we cannot survive an implemented far right agenda. It will be the end of everything.
We need to win the 2018 midterms. Then we can deal with the Comrade. Until then, I want him just where he is, doing exactly what he's doing.

(17,863 posts)Since he has basically abdicated foreign and military policy having him mucking up the works on the GOP domestic agenda is best case. Even his own Cabinet is ignoring his communications. A very dangerous situation for sure, and I wonder how long Trump will let it continue. He looks like an idiot.

(11,949 posts)But I find myself agreeing with you. Pence is a true believing religious nut. We know most of these holier than thou congressman or just hypocrites. Hell, seems like every year to one of them gets caught playing footsie with a stranger in the men's room. Or Molesting young boys and showers.
But Pense, he believes that shit and is looking forward to Armageddon. And until then wants to enforce his lifestyle on all Americans.

(28,820 posts)I think there will be intense collateral damage. If Dump falls bigly, I think Pence, Ryan and more (please please please McConnell, too) will go with him.
I think we may be heading for a Constitutional magnatude 10.
My spouse thinks he walks.
