WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House says President Donald Trump is pledging $1 million in personal funds to Harvey storm relief efforts.White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders made the announcement at a briefing Thursday.
And she says he's calling on reporters (the liars and fake news?) to help decide which specific organization he will give to.
Trump has been criticized in the past for giving far less of his income to charitable causes than many other multi-billionaires.
...............................
Didn't he "donate" a million dollars to some veterans group as a candidate,
and didn't pay until shamed into it by social media?

(11,519 posts)He's been criticized for that in the past, bragging about donating YUUUUGE amounts of money when in reality it was from one of his foundations and not a red cent of it came from his pocket.
I'm not impressed.

(19,863 posts)...where the proceeds were to go to the vets. It never happened until an investigative reported researched the donations and found they never occurred. He's a grifter and a con man.
I'll believe the money goes to Houston when verified.
BTW, how about the 1B he took away from the FEMA budget for Houston to go the the build a wall fund. I want him to return that money to Houston relief fund

(5,611 posts)It was such a painfully obvious play for attention and votes. He was later called out for not giving the money away so they held some idiot press conference to clean up the mess. I still can't believe people voted for this scumbag. Seriously.

(652 posts)If your net worth is $1 million, that would be a $250 comparable donation.
If your net worth is $500,000, that would be $125.
If your net worth is $300,000, that would be $75.
While I'm sure every dollar is appreciated, Trump's $1 million donation is nothing to crow about.
Mark 12:41-44New International Version (NIV)
The Widows Offering
41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everythingall she had to live on.

(11,257 posts)Some publication, maybe Forbes?, estimated his net worth to be below a billion. And remember, the reason Russia owns him was because he needed money and no one in the U.S. would lend to him.
CozyMystery
(652 posts)That $8.7 billion figure was as of June 2014, he declared when he launched his campaign in June 2015. By the time he filed his personal financial disclosure, he declared that his net worth had grown to "TEN BILLION DOLLARS," in the all-caps used in the campaign's announcement. His disclosure this year [2016] put the figure at "in excess of" $10 billion.

(100 posts)I do hope the failing NYT and dishonest WP have enough staff to cover this act of generosity because, like all things Donald, it will become very drawn out and complicated and will display Mr Burns-like nastiness. If this is supposed to show the sweet affable Trump, I wonder why very few people believe him, even the rational right.
(I give up on his groupies)
Whatever happens, it will be jaw-dropping and show new depths of financial chicanery.
