Low pressure system could form in Gulf by weekend, National Hurricane Center says

An area of low pressure might form over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico by the weekend, the National Hurricane Center said Wednesday, as Texas and Louisiana continue to feel the impacts of Tropical Storm Harvey.

Development, if any, is expected to be slow to occur as the low moves northward slowly. If the system develops, it could bring additional rainfall to portions of the Texas and Louisiana coasts, the National Hurricane Center said.

A rainfall estimate is “uncertain at this time range,” and it’s too soon to know what the impacts of the system would be, according to the NHC.

The system has a low chance of tropical cyclone formation in the next 48 hours, at 0 percent. Formation chance through the next five days is 20 percent.
