Shit.
Locals are saying they can't get out of the city and rescuers/first responders can't get to them because of rain/floods now. 911 system is down.

(25,493 posts)It sounds pretty dire....
I wish more would have evacuated after Houston. Although I don't know what the roads were like going out of Port Arthur/Beaumont on Sunday.

This is what the exit ramp from 59 n to I-10 east, downtown Houston, has looked like for a couple of days.

Evacuation prior to last Friday was the last time it would have been feasible. Friday was too late.

Some notes (credit: https://twitter.com/search?q=stormwx1):
Radar indicating 8" / hour Northeast of Port Arthur. That's incredible.
Unimaginable rainfall rates across Port Arthur. 4-8" PER HOUR
I-10 from Houston to Beaumont is either closed or impassible. Some areas have waves and look like an ocean. Catastrophic flooding.
Cedar Bayou, TX has received 51.88" (>1300mm) of rainfall from #Harvey. Recording breaking total.
Catastrophic wind has ended, catastrophic flooding is just beginning.

(52 posts)Used to think that the worst that could happen when you got up in the middle of the night was to step in slimy cat throw-up. Nope, putting feet into two inches of water beats that, fur sure.
And, to make it even lovelier, the building fire alarm has been screeching since 'round ten last night.
Still have power, 'tho...
Send best witches, k?
Sigh.

(8,204 posts)I hope you are not in the worst of it. The tweets from people begging for rescue are heartrending.
If you need to go to the roof, don't forget to bring a sheet or towel to wave for rescue.
I hope to hear tomorrow that you are safe.
