Oxford University professor resigns in Donald Trump protest
Bo Rothstein quits Blavatnik School of Government post after learning that patron is a major financial backer of US president
A leading political academic has resigned from his Oxford University post after it emerged that one of the universitys key patrons is also one of Donald Trumps biggest financial backers.
Bo Rothstein was professor of government and public policy at the Blavatnik School of Government, named after the Ukraine-born billionaire Leonard Blavatnik, who gave the university £75m to set up the school.
...
Blavatnik, who is an associate of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, is reported to have donated $1m to Trumps inauguration committee, as well as millions of dollars to his campaign.
...
The letter added: As I see it, Donald Trumps policies are also antithetical to the goal of the Blavatnik School of Government, which aims to improve the quality of government and public policymaking worldwide, so that citizens can enjoy more secure and more fulfilled lives. I therefore find Mr Blavatniks decision to support Donald Trump both incomprehensible and irresponsible.
