...and it won't be the last.
Some Texas republicans (and others) need reminding of how they voted to deny relief funds for hurricanes Katrina and Sandy. We shouldn't be silent on this, waiting for the next disaster to strike and watching republicans develop their selective amnesia, making demands (like paying for the aid before authorizing it) that they would never consider for their own state.
179 of 180 republican congressmen voted NO on Sandy relief funds and 20 were from Texas. Of course, the Sandy 'no' votes were all about denying Pres. Obama the opportunity to help the state before the election. This time around, EVERY ONE of those republicans who voted to deny NJ aid will be lining up, expecting the other states to fork over the money without question.
Congress SHOULD turn over the federal funds, immediately and without question or any sort of payback. That's what Democrats do, no matter the politics of the state. Let's not pretend, though, that their integrity is shared by all the republicans first in line this time around to approve money for Texas.
FFS, here's Trump looking to cut FEMA's Flood and Pre-Disaster Mitigation programs:
"The White Houses proposed cuts to the FEMAs budget would seriously undermine the nations ability to prepare for and recover from disasters. The 2018 budget proposes eliminating the National Flood Insurance Programs Flood Hazard Mapping and Risk Analysis Program, which is vital for communities seeking to understand climate risks and take protective measures. The budget also cuts funding for the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant Program by nearly 61 percent. The program helps states, local governments and communities plan and implement long-term measures to reduce the risks and losses from disasters."

Here's the vote for Sandy aid. 179 of the 180 no votes were Republicans. I count at least 20 Texas Republicans.

(15,222 posts)I despise hypocrisy and that vote was wrong.
Natural disasters happen everywhere without anyone's ability to control. All should be dealt with in the best possible way.
