White supremacist forum site Stormfront seized by domain hosts

Stormfront, an international supremacist web forum, appears to have been seized by its website host, Network Solutions, LLC.

The forum disappeared Friday. WhoIs, a web service that tracks site ownership, reported the Stormfront domain's status as "under hold."

According to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, a nonprofit that coordinates name spaces on the Internet, a hold status is an uncommon status that indicates a site is under legal dispute or about to be deleted.

Network Solutions has also prohibited Stormfront from updating, transferring or deleting its web forum on its own. That means Stormfront's web masters cannot re-introduce the site on another domain.

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) put the domain name under a hold. As well, the sites current domain registrar, Network Solutions, has ensured that the site's owners can't transfer the domain name to another registrar.

Registering a domain name is not the same a hosting a website. One must first register/lease the domain name from a registrar. Then one pays for hosting that domain name and website.

Unfortunately they can pick another domain name through a different registrar. But their options are getting more limited and finding it wll be harder. Maybe they could find a similar domain like borefront.com, or sorerunt.net, or tornstunt.sucks . I think kiddyporn.xxx would get them where they need to go ultimately.

16. I've always thought it was a bit of a cop out for web hosting serivces to cite "Freedom of

Speech" issues when defending their hosting of hate sites. It's not a 1st Amendment issue. These internet hosting sites are not government owned so it seems to me they can host anybody they want. Bigots can still scream on the corner if they want to, they just aren't allowed to spread their hatred to a mass audience via the Internet.
