Some scenes from the USNS Bob Hope, and a link to see our tax dollars at work...

I evaluate communications and IT Soldiers, Airmen and Sailors involved in the transportation system. My coworkers are experts in other aspects of global mobility: air, ground and sea transportation, logistics management etc. etc.

To get an accurate look at our capabilities as well as too allow real hands-on training, we conduct exercises around the world. Like this one:

I work in Training and Exercises for the Department of Defense. Occasionally, we pull a few score Soldiers and Sailors from various bases around the country to form a Joint Task Force - Port Opening (Seaport). We did that this month and sent them to San Diego to unload 2 ships and send the equipment on to its final destination.

This capability allows the US to quickly establish a Port of Debarkation in austere environments without local logistics support and move cargo from seaports or air strips onward.

This capability has most often been used for disaster response - What we call HA/DR (Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief*). In that role, it has been deployed to Haiti twice, Pakistan after the floods in the central highlands and West Africa to bring in equipment and supplies for the Ebola relief efforts.

I've been a small gear in this great big machine for years, and I will be until I just can't do it anymore.

I'm getting old and I averaged 22k steps a day these last 2 weeks. I am sore, but proud...

I want the world to know what we do with our tax money, and while I will never pretend that waste and stupidity don't take a bite - training to do amazing shit takes time, people and equipment - things that don't exist outside the DoD - and that comes with a price tag

Peace

* no I don't know why we use acronyms/invented terms rather than regular English. I gave up trying on that front decades ago.
