Trump signs directive banning transgender military recruits

(CNN)President Donald Trump on Friday directed the military not to move forward with an Obama-era plan that would have allowed transgender individuals to be recruited into the armed forces, following through on his intentions announced a month earlier to ban transgender people from serving.

The presidential memorandum also bans the Department of Defense from using its resources to provide medical treatment regimens for transgender individuals currently serving in the military.

Trump also directed the departments of Defense and Homeland Security "to determine how to address transgender individuals currently serving based on military effectiveness and lethality, unitary cohesion, budgetary constraints, applicable law, and all factors that may be relevant," the White House official said.

The White House official who briefed reporters on the memo on Friday evening declined to say whether transgender troops would be allowed to remain in the military under those policy guidelines.

and before anyone tells me the directive doesn't mean anything, you're wrong.

It's the important step in a president changing policy for the military.

There are lawsuits that could have an impact and Congress could even fight against it.

But - unless one of those 2 things do make a difference - this directive - and it is a directive - goes to the SecDef for implementation protocols. And since the directive calls for pre-2016 protocols, those already exist - meaning full implementation can take 6 months or less.

The directive also says transgender troops can't use their military health-care to pay for surgical reassignment - if they are allowed to remain at all. Trump is leaving it SecDef to make the retention determination.

But without needed medical care, we will lose those troops.

Trump is a hate-filled, odious pus-pocket.

3. People will die. They could become so distraught over what Trump did today

that they become desperate - the could commit suicide.

Not because they are weak. Not because they are damaged - but because they can't be who they are. Because they have found a niche, a place of acceptance, and somewhere they can get the care they need, and serve their country - something they wanted to do.

They finally got acceptance in the military only to have it ripped out from under them.

They finally got to drop the mask. Drop the act. They got to stop pretending to be someone they weren't and got to be themselves.

Trump took that from them today.

He took their dignity.

What Trump did today is a blow to their very core.

He said they were a burden and not worth it. Not worth it.

Their president - their commander in chief - told them they weren't worth it.

Can you imagine how that feels?

I live on a military post. I know transgender soldiers. I have seen the fear on their faces over the last month and today was a crushing blow.

If one of them kills themselves, as far as I'm concerned - Trump murdered them.


Gender dysphoria has a high suicide rate as it is - the fear, the worry about how they will be treated, accepted, not being able to live as the person they are. They judgment of others. The cruelty of others.

Now add to that your life being shattered. The life you worked so hard for being stolen away from you with the swipe of a pen.

The happiness you felt when the policy first changed (under Obama) and you gained legal acceptance in a job you love - with the life you had built - only to have it all stripped away because Trump is a cruel, bigoted piece of garbage.

You could finally be who you are and be that person openly - and now some monster has come along and taken it all from you.

I hate him. I hate him. I hate him.
