(53,061 posts)Most of the dentists live in Yuma and set up practices in Algodones to save money.
Only main draw back is that you cannot sue for malpractice, but the level of care is consistent with US dentists. I believe that Algadones is the largest location for Americans travelling for medical/dental although TJ may have more because of San Diego.
It is a small village located a couple of blocks from the border. You can stay in Yuma and cross just for the appointments.

(9,808 posts)I spent part of my teen years in Yuma, at MCAS. Most of my friends who weren't mil brats got their braces and care in Algodones. It's a very good community and, at least then, was very much a blended community with a technical border. (I had friends whose family had owned their land on both sides of the border since before my family made it to Massachusetts or Philadelphia in the 17th century. The border is extremely artificial for them.)

(32,733 posts)I was really worried about how we'd be received, but everything was fine. The lobby waiting room had TVs on CNN the entire time. Believe it or not, there were actually deplorables who went there for service as well. SMH.

(16,386 posts)They said they couldn't afford the care here in the U.S., and didn't see the irony in the situation. I also have a friend who has gone several times and is quite happy with the results. I know it is possible to save loads of money, even when considering in the travel costs. Good luck.

And booked way in advance America Airlines can be down near $310 out of Tampa.
The Colombia peso was 2,000 to the dollar about 2 years ago, since the price drop in oil it is 3,000 to the dollar, it's very cheap to visit.

(14,732 posts)training equivalent to the US now charge prices which are as high as, if not higher than in the US. The days when dentistry in Colombia was cheap are long gone now. But it's still a great place to visit!

(14,732 posts)Just a consultation cost me $200 - in dollars. A bridge cost me a little under $2,000. I'm sure you can get it done for less but it also depends on how well trained the dentist is.
