The fact about the Confederate flag is that nobody is trying to change history by taking the flag down. If we some how manage to take all of them down that will not change the history of what happened.
The fact is if this flag meant so much to them why did they not stand up to the KKK and the Nazis that stole the history of the Confederate flag. Their flag has bin stolen and turned into a symbol of hate by the Nazis and the KKK. The time for the fight to protect the flag has long gone by. But we the liberals did not do this. Thy the confederate flag lovers did this to them selves. So when they cry History. Ask them why for Gods sake why did they not stand up to the Nazis and the KKK that stole that dam flag. They did nothing.

(11,110 posts)The Beauregard flag was not originally a symbol for the KKK. For years, the KKK mostly carried the US Flag - claiming to be the true patriots. The adoption of the Beauregard flag by the KKK is a relatively recent development.
That being said, the Beauregard flag is a natural fit for the KKK. The core belief of both KKK and the Confederacy is/was racism. The KKK may well have taken the flag from the ghosts of the Confederacy but I don't think those old ghosts would mind - they were really about the same thing.

(22,976 posts)As stated upthread, the KKK carried the American flag during their resurgence in the 1920s. The iconic photos of thousands of Klansmen marching down Pennsylvania Avenue shows them all carrying the Stars and Stripes.
But in the 1950s-60s, during the height of civil-rights struggle, the Confederate battle flag was brought to the fore again, this time leaving no doubt about it being a banner of white supremacy and hatred.
Regardless, it is now a worldwide symbol of violent hatred and intolerance. I'd like to see its use banned, as was done with the Nazi flag in Germany.
That's what I'm talking about the KKK and the Nazis stole the flag. And yes they wear fighting for slavery. but that is indeed history.
The war was to preserve slavery. I'm just saying the KKK and Nazis stole any history that they can claim.
