He served as a surface warfare officer and a special assistant to the Navy's top admiral at the Pentagon. He served on the Paul F. Foster, a guided-missile destroyer, and was twice deployed;

These things don't happen on accident. I imagine he could work his way up in many positions before destroying the organization itself.

he obviously has something going for him. The military is full of intelligent, talented and ambitious people. You can get away with some rough edges if you can perform well under stress.

In any case, he was only in for seven years.

his 'business' took advantage of blizzard & sony? online server games for several years. He was a plague they fought against for many years.

"Left" his ship assignment early (supposed to do enough to make one grade rank, but he didn't), got a staff position in the Pentagon, and apparently still couldn't be bothered to play the Jr. Officer game well enough to make it beyond the first 7 years.
Couldn't make it past LT.
