Can anybody explain how someone with that personality type could possibly exist and manage to rise within a military command structure?

(39,171 posts)he obviously has something going for him. The military is full of intelligent, talented and ambitious people. You can get away with some rough edges if you can perform well under stress.
In any case, he was only in for seven years.

(12,659 posts)"Left" his ship assignment early (supposed to do enough to make one grade rank, but he didn't), got a staff position in the Pentagon, and apparently still couldn't be bothered to play the Jr. Officer game well enough to make it beyond the first 7 years.
