What does America do now that the precedent of Trump has been set?

Every time Trump lies through his teeth, and let's face it almost everything that escapes his mouth is a lie, he drags the office of the presidency through the mud again. Ok so politicians have always been slippery with the truth. But there is a difference between the kind of weasel words that politicians have been using for generations and the kind of total denial of reality lies that Trump tells. Both are dangerous for political leaders to engage in, but the later invites the spectre of the worst horrors of human kind.

In Trump's specific case I think he's too mentally ill and stupid to actually make use of his position. That we can be thankful for.

But the normalisation of the kind of lies this man tells, in the hands of someone smarter, with a clear agenda, and vision, could lead to unspeakable horrors.

After all just how do you get from a disaffected, restless, angry, but unfocused populous, to concentration camps? The way it's done is through constant repetitive lies each one of which are so outrageous that people are left spinning just hearing them. Repeat adnauseam until people don't know which direction is up. Thankfully Trump doesn't have such a "vision", the only vision he has is seeing his name in lights. His psyche is that of a 5 year old looking for praise and validation. Terrifyingly in search of it he has indeed used the lies and rhetoric of someone who would pave the way to concentration camps. But he doesn't have that end point as his goal thankfully, and the next minute the lies he tells are about the turnout crowd size at his inauguration, or denying 1 + 1 = 2.

But he has set the precedent of an American president routinely, daily, telling totally reality divorced lies. And because the sky has not totally fallen the media has done it's part in normalizing his daily lies. Yes they call him out on them. But it's now just a routine. One day he says that the Mexicans are sending us mostly murderers and rapists. The next that he invented the concept of the number 5.

What I fear is once a precedent is set others can much more easily follow in their foot steps. What can America do so that some time down the line the next president to use such tactics doesn't have a "final solution"?

It won't happen but we need to amend the Constitution to help remove unfit presidents. LonePirate Aug 2017 #1

Except for the fact that Republicans will use this against any and every Democratic President, albeit unsuccessfully but it will waste time and distract from governing.

Some form of proportional representation. I know talk of changing the electoral system in the US is anathema to most politicians of any stripe, but maybe the disaster that is Trump may get the ball rolling on that?
