CNN: White House has paperwork ready for Joe Arpaio pardon, along with prepared talking points

Washington (CNN)The White House has prepared the paperwork for President Trump to pardon former sheriff Joe Arpaio when he makes the final decision to do so, CNN has learned.

An administration official said the White House has also prepared talking points to send to surrogates after he is pardoned.

One of the talking points is that Arpaio served his country for 50 years in the military, the Drug Enforcement Administration and as Arizona's Maricopa County sheriff, and that it is not appropriate to send him to prison for "enforcing the law" and "working to keep people safe."

Arpaio, an early Trump supporter, was found guilty last month of criminal contempt for disregarding a court order in a racial profiling case. He is scheduled to be sentenced on October 5.

Having lived in Maricopa County when he became Sheriff, he was an embarrassment and a disgrace. He should be sent to Florence Prison and be forced to wear nothing but pink jumpers.
I know first-hand that he's a racist asshole.

It would absolutely be another nail in Trump's coffin. Pardoning one of the worst people in America would seem like something he would do just to piss us off.

State? Something

They should charge him under one of those if possible. It's not right that he should escape justice.

on immigration. The very reason he is in contempt is the reason that there isn't a state law on which to convict him.

But another display of tone-deaf racism coming right on the heels of Charlottesville would be a bit too much of a "good" thing.

(Where "good" = playing to his racist base)

He's too stupid to realize it. His handlers aren't - so the question is whether he wins or his handlers do.

It'll still be "Joe, what have you done for ME lately?"

The pardon will not come without a cost.
