When President Trump gave a shout out to chief of staff John Kelly during his fiery, wide-ranging campaign-style rally Tuesday evening, social media had a bit of fun imagining what the retired Marine general was doing when he didn't when Trump beckoned.

"Where is John? Where is Gen. Kelly? Get him out here. He's great. He's doing a great job," Trump said to cheers. The nearly one-and-a-half-hour speech touched on a number of issues; Trump notably spent roughly 25 minutes lambasting the media.

This was a Trump 2020 (seriously!) campaign rally. Under the Hatch Act, cabinet officials and other employees in the executive branch of the federal government, except the president, vice-president, are prohibited from engaging in political activity.

Kelly is completely incapable of keeping Trump's crazy at bay. Priebus at least kept it to a low hum. The answer here is simple: Priebus had nearly a full year experience in dealing with Trump's dementia. Kelly, a Marine, had some laughable assumption that Trump must have been minimally capable to have attained command.

Kelly is floundering badly, unable to control Trump at all.

Priebus had more experience in politics though . Kelly's is in the military and we see his influence there .
