Not his problem. Let the generals fix it. He's too busy watching cable news and screaming at the TV.

(which seems odd, given that the state is desert and landlocked, but there are a lot of military folks here) and said that there had been 4 collisions in the area. Having 3 ships needing major repairs doesn't surprise me at all. The fourth is probably undergoing more minor repairs.

Considering the last one was hit just a hair aft of admidships, it seems clear both crews were paying attention to the GPS and neither ship took the proper action to avoid a collision.

Obviously, this is insane.

For that, you need radar, eyes along with voice and visual communications .

on other ships, as well, and seem to be skipping the visual, especially. I can think of no other reasons for a nearly dead center collision.

GPS assists in navigation and is uses as one of several methods which cross-check on each other. Sure, a complete moron can set their ship to use GPS for autopilot, but no warship commander in their right mind would so so, even the relief crew. Even then, they are still charged with maintaining traffic separation.

You have gyroscopic navigation, magnetic, GPS, radio navigation and visual navigation. These ships have anti-collision radar, proximity detectors, and other devices to maintain contact with other ships.

These warships can outmaneuver almost every other ship in the theater, and can out run them. This places them as the ones who yield to other traffic, especially slow moving cargo vessels.

Russia is behind it - hacking and spoofing the GPS location to cause the collisions. I don't have any more info, but thought it might add to this topic... Something's up.

There has been silence, just the sterile mention that it happened...look the other way.

If it had been Obama it would have been his fault and they would have paraded sad families and pictures of coffins in front of the cameras. He would have been called a failure as a commander and chief and the media would have dogged him to admit it.

If this happened because of hacking computer systems on the warships it is very frightening, just like our 2016 but with major loss of life. We need to admit it so we can deal with it.

Our sympathies and thoughts go out to the families of those we lost, and our support goes to the others on those ships and the entire 7th Fleet.

Their web site: http://www.c7f.navy.mil/

This is bound to hurt the morale of our military personnel and their families. This is the time we need leaders that provide a strong demonstration of ultimate respect for those lost, love and support for those still suffering, positive indications of coming changes to prevent this from reoccurring, and reaffirmation of our resolve to other world leaders.

The world is watching, Donald.

Now, your in command/duty officer of the ship. Shouldn't that person also be a critical thinker? What were they thinking, cutting across the headway of another vessel? Aircraft have collision avoidance.
I've not read anywhere any actions that were taken by either quartermaster/OOD or the bridge of the tanker.
Several years back I saw a frigate squat and scoot after UNPLEN (spelling). But that was a skipper at the helm, after sounding the horn. Did this happen? In a lot of aviation accidents there is a progression of errors. ? ?
We are missing something here.
Situational awareness.
