As the AP reported in June 2002:
The distinction which Utah officials said was made in error fueled the debate about whether Romney meets Massachusetts' residential requirements to be governor. The state Constitution requires a candidate to live in Massachusetts for seven years prior to election.
And as the Boston Globe explained that same month:
Romney changed those returns to Massachusetts resident in April, after deciding to run for governor, saying his longtime tax advisers at Pricewaterhouse Coopers had made a mistake.

2012: I was in Salt Lake City for three straight years. I dont recall even coming back once to go to a Bain or management meeting. We were, I was out there running the Olympics and it was a full time job, I can tell you that.

It must get so confusing with so many houses and having to change state registrations on the fly so often (noting that for the special election, he claimed to be living in his son's basement in Mass.... )
Get on it, ProSense. We have only scratched the surface of his entitled "rules don't apply to me" actions flying in the face of federal regulations.

(1,704 posts)He can straight-faced lie about anything. The reason he can't or won't tell us what his plans for governing are is because he has none. Robme intends to set up his rich buddies by privatizing America, selling off precious resources, and draining every dime out of America. They will plop it all into banks in foreign countries, sit back and laugh at how stupid we were to buy their bullshit. Wake up, people!!

(35,374 posts)Ask any grad student who's trying to establish residency for state tuition purposes. You can live in a state for a year and still not live in the state.
When I moved to Calif. I had checked the rules. I made sure I cashed out my checking account. I made sure that I changed all my addresses. I got a driver's license the day after I arrived. Register at school? Nope, DL was more important. Registered to vote the next day. It was strange, giving *everybody* my dorm address as my permanent address. Even the school bounced my form the first time around--"are you sure that you want to have your dorm as your permanent address, and your dorm as your current address?"
Any connection with my old state could be seen as not establishing residence in Calif. and as an intent to return after finishing school in Calif. I couldn't afford the $12k/year tuition difference.
A year later I was approved for in-state tuition a couple of days before the term started. Most others had their applications bounced. Even if they had really moved, most still kept a bank account or something in their old state or they failed to have everything reflect their residence in California. In other words, for two years they lived in California but didn't really live in California.
Oddly, some students who *did*, under Calif. rules, establish residence didn't end their residence in their home states according to their home states' rules. In other words, different definitions led to their being able to claim residency for a number of years in two states.

(193 posts)Just like he retroactively resigned from Bain.
He should never have been allowed to run for Governor, and we would not be having this discussion today, Sarah Palin would be running for President against Obama.

...how he would answer the question today? I mean, there are at least three different answers in the OP.
He's a liar either way.

(82,383 posts)for purposes of running for governor of MASS, he lived in MASS from 97 to 2004
for purposes of running for POTUS, he lived in SLS from 99 to 2002.
