Alabama’s GOP Governor Calls On Romney To Release More Tax Returns: ‘Release Everything To The American People’

By Judd Legum on Jul 14, 2012 at 4:47 pm

<snip>Robert Bently, the Republican Governor of Alabama, isn’t satisfied. The AP has the story: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/bain-fading-obama-romney-16777529

Pressure was building on Romney from within his own party to be more forthcoming with his finances, a day after he declared he would not release past income tax returns beyond his 2010 tax records and, before the November election, his 2011 taxes.

On the sidelines of the National Governors Association meeting in Williamsburg, Alabama’s Republican governor, Robert Bentley, called on Romney to release all the documents requested of him.

“If you have things to hide, then maybe you’re doing things wrong,” Bentley said. “I think you ought to be willing to release everything to the American people.“

Can't go off the reservation, Bentley. You'll be apologizing to Rush on Monday for this, for sure. Fox and Hannity, of course, won't note it.

12. Another "bedwetter"

Looks like Bentley has joined the growing group of Republicans who Romney's campaign called bedwetters yesterday.

“We aren’t reacting to what the Obama campaign does. … We aren’t reacting to what Republican strategists do. We’ve got a plan to win. We know what it takes and that’s what we’re going to do. All of this hew and cry, you know, from the bedwetters who get to sit on the sidelines, aren’t going to affect what we’re going to do and our plan.”

Keeping tabs on the Republican Bedwetter's Club is going to be fascinating to watch next week. It almost seems like we are witnessing a giant fracture in the Republican Party -- those who are backing Romney to the bitter end regardless of what lies or potential criminality Romney has engaged in, and those who are more inclined to side with the bedwetters. The bedwetters who are calling on Romney to release all his tax returns MUST know that this is something that Romney cannot and will not do, and that what they are essentially calling for is a quick end to Romney's candidacy.

Of course, there's always the possibility that Romney's complete set of (unaltered) tax returns all the way back to 1999 will clear him of any suspicion or wrong doing, and he can get back to running a clean and principled campaign once again.

If Rush Limbaugh doesn't come out swinging in support of Romney this next week, I will take that as a sure sign that Romney's fate has already been decided, and we're just waiting for the axe to officially fall. Can't wait to find out!

It seems that the reTHUGs have been breaking ranks a little bit lately. Maybe the intense dislike of Romney and the blatant corruption has them wanting to distance themselves.

Jeb is waiting for 2016, amnesia from the people, and a better economy. They don't want Mitt in... It's his year to run and tank and move out of the way. What they will be focusing on are down ticket races and re-building their base... They need to shed the wing-nuts rule mentality. They r drowning the party...

Romney’s father, George Romney, released 12 years of tax returns when he ran for President in the 1960s. Romney provided John McCain with 23 years of tax returns when he was being considered for the Vice Presidential nomination in 2008.

More important than the three journalists who broke the story, and the Obama Camp information . . . It's out there on the Right. I'd bet anything those 23 years are floating around somewhere.

too late to change him out for another rethug at this point.

The field was beyond weak and Mittens was the best they could do.
All they have left are the delusional, the immoral, the hypocritical, the racists, and the fundies who are too large a voting bloc in the party.

I don't see them fielding a viable candidate for at least 10 years at this point.

Alabama Governor: I Didn't Call On Romney To Release His Tax Returns

“I just think that everyone should do that.” One Republican's attempt to avoid running afoul of his party's nominee.

Is it possible that because Rmoney hasn't accepted the nomination, that there is a coup of sorts going on? Do they realize what a lame-ass candidate they have now and hope for a last minute Hail Mary by someone else?

I wasn't thinking that before, but now it's just getting weird. Do they know how damaged he is? As in.. you think that the insiders have been talking about what McCain's people saw in those returns that precluded him from the VP spot?

He's not the nominee officially until the Convention.

But a presidential race is pretty unique. The problem with Romney is that he's looked like he's hiding something from the beginning.

At this point in American politics you have to be willing to disclose EVERYTHING. It is the way it is.
